Kellie Finlayson could be cancer-free in three months after doctors ‘restaged’ their prognosis.

Kellie Finlayson reveals she could be cancer-free in three months after doctors ‘adjusted’ their terminally ill prognosis… and the Port Adelaide star’s wife admits her own specialist couldn’t believe the news

The wife of Port Adelaide star Jeremy Finlayson has revealed she could be cancer-free in three months.

Kellie Finlayson is battling stage four colon and lung cancer after the former emerged in November 2021 following the birth of her first child, Sophia.

Finlayson was told her cancer was terminal, but her doctors have since “adjusted” her prognosis.

The development was so unexpected that the 27-year-old revealed that even her oncologist struggled to believe it.

“After all the chemotherapy I’ve had, they did a CAT scan […] all the scans and they came back with no activity,” she shared The Adelaide Advertiser.

“Of course, with the prognosis I had, we didn’t think that would happen. My oncologist called me […] he’s like, “This is crazy” […] he was shocked – I’m really lucky.’

Finlayson, who married the Port Tall in a surprise ceremony in March, said doctors believe the cancer is now small enough to be killed by chemotherapy.

She explained that she will have to undergo a few more rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and then she can get everything clear.

“In three months I could technically be cancer-free again,” she said.

‘I do not have that [cancer] really hanging over me – I don’t really think I did it from the start.”

Kellie began experiencing abdominal pain and constipation as early as three months after Sophia was born in August 2021, but initially dismissed the symptoms as postpartum problems.

She was then diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and after the first rounds of treatment she was told the cancer had spread to her lungs.

Although her cancer was considered terminal, she was never given a detailed time frame of the course of the disease.

Jeremy fought back tears as he paid a touching tribute to his ailing wife after helping Port Adelaide to victory over Sydney last month.

Finlayson kicked three goals as the Power beat the Swans 66-64 and then spoke emotionally about her brave battle against cancer.

‘I hope she’s watching. I love her so much,” he said on Channel 7.

“This is just a reward for persevering and doing for Kell and Soph back home. I’m happy to play football here and do what I love.’

Port coach Ken Hinkley sang the ruckman’s praises after the match, revealing the role the club had played in supporting him and Kellie through her ordeal.

“He has a very close, really incredibly close family, and he has a very close family at our football club as well,” Hinkley said.

“His family and our family come together, and we support their family and he supports us, and that’s how you get through.

‘That’s why footy clubs are great environments when the going gets tough.’
