Keith William Marshall: Cairns pedophile who raped 12-year-old girl jailed

An “emotionally manipulative” pedophile taunted a 12-year-old girl after raping her, a court has heard.

Keith William Marshall told the girl “you know, I love you” while he raped her and she begged him to stop in May 2020.

Marshall was found guilty of rape and indecent treatment of a child under 16 in the Cairns District Court on Monday.

A heartbreaking victim impact statement read to the court revealed the girl was changed “forever” by Marshall’s actions, becoming angry and anti-social and beginning to self-harm after the assault.

The court heard Marshall asked the girl to sit on his lap, kissed and licked her ear, then digitally raped her.

The educator responsible for a sickening catalog of child sex crimes told the parents of his alleged victims at pick-up time that their children “had a great day,” when in reality he would have raped them.

When she said “no” twice, he replied, “You don’t want to say yes?”

Immediately after the assault, Marshall mocked her and slapped the girl on the buttocks.

“Is this what your mother does to you?” ” he asked him.

The court heard Marshall then told the girl not to tell anyone because he “wanted to do more things to her”.

She was scared and later told her friends, who convinced her to tell her mother.

Her mother’s statement said her daughter would “never” be the same after the attack.

“She was happy, athletic, engaged, friendly, loved school, worked hard and trusted everyone,” Crown prosecutor Rachel Boivin said, reading from the release.

“She is no longer recognizable as the person she was before this crime.

“She will never be the same.”

Marshall was sentenced to four years in prison, but could be released in two years for his “forceful and brazen” actions. Pictured: an image of an upset child

Ms Boivin told the court the rape “changed her life and who she was, forever”.

Judge Tracy Fantin described Marshall’s actions as “exploitative”, “forceful”, “brazen” and “emotionally manipulative”.

Marshall was convicted Monday and sentenced to four years in prison with a sentence of two years without the possibility of parole.
