The singer publicly battled drug and alcohol addiction and entered rehab several times, most recently enrolling in the Betty Ford Center in October 2006.

The visit was just months after marrying Nicole.

Keith admitted that his marriage is an important factor in staying sober and staying out of trouble as he spoke to The Sun last month.

“I’d like to stay married!” said Kees.

“Night-me hates me during the day, it’s so true. But the next morning the nocturnal one is nowhere to be seen – it is totally inexplicable.’

Keith – who shares daughters Sunday, 13, and Faith, 11, with Nicole, added: ‘Life is very different these days. I’m trying to set a good example for the kids, but I’m still not sure if I’m doing it right.

“I made so many mistakes, but you have to figure out what works for you. bMy message to them is always to do what they are passionate about, I don’t care as long as they work hard to achieve it.’

Keith said it helps him stay sober by keeping up to date with his successful career, which includes touring, releasing music and working as a mentor on The Voice Australia.

He recently recalled the moment when his wife Nicole organized an intervention for his addiction problems, in an excerpt from Jeff Apter’s book Keith Urban.

said Keith Rolling stone magazine back in 2016 that he would have understood if Nicole, 54, chose to leave him after his 2006 rehab stint, as the couple had only married that year.

“I was very, very blessed that Nic interceded with me,” Keith said, adding that his reckless behavior “caused the implosion of my new marriage.”

He also reflected on intervening with Oprah Winfrey, admitting to the famous talk show host that he was “going off the rails” and “needed help and a new direction” in his life.

Nicole, who was working in Rome at the time of his bow, flew back to the United States and gathered his friends to stage an intervention.

“The love in that room at the time was just right,” Keith told Oprah. “To see love in action like that… never seen anything like it before.”

Keith has been open about his past struggles with alcohol addiction, revealing at the South By Southwest conference in Texas in 2018 that he wishes he had gotten sober earlier in life.

“I wish I had gotten sober years earlier, but it is what it is,” he said.

“I knew I wasn’t at my full potential, and that was starting to get to me. I was enslaved… I lived a very, very small life.”
