Keely Hodgkinson has achieved a spectacular victory in the women’s 800 metres, winning a gold medal and going one better than her silver medal in Tokyo three years ago.
The Team GB star made her favourite title a nerve-wracking success when she defeated a strong field in Paris tonight, including world champion Mary Moraa of Kenya.
Hodgkinson arrived at the Paris Games with high expectations. He was ranked number one in the world and reached the preliminary rounds and semi-finals with great ease.

And she thrived under the pressure in the crowded Stade de France, running a fantastic time of 1 minute 56.72 seconds. Now the 22-year-old can bask in the glory of her Olympic championship.
Hodgkinson waited patiently for one of her other rivals to make an early move and set the pace, and Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma duly did so.
