Katy Perry announces she’s ‘due’ to hit the road and tour once Las Vegas residency PLAY wraps

Katy Perry is ready to get her show back on the road after a nearly five-year hiatus from touring.

In a new interview with Out, the pop star revealed she plans to tour once she completes her PLAY residency at Resorts World in Las Vegas.

“I know there are a lot of people who couldn’t make it to Vegas,” Perry, 38, explained of her interest in taking her show to the world.

“The last time I was on tour was in 2018. I’m…due. How about that? I have to go see the kids who couldn’t make it to Vegas.”

While the Santa Barbara, California native confessed that she’s “proud of the show,” it turns out it’s technically impossible to snoop everywhere the elaborate sets and costumes.’

“It’s such a spectacular show that we love so much,” she added. “It’s almost like a greatest hits show!” I call it all thriller, no filler. I wish I could take it to the rest of the world.”

The Fireworks star continued, “Closing a chapter on PLAY allows me to start a new one. I am so excited about the potential of my story to continue.”

Part of the appeal of performing for fans, through the residency, is that it offers Perry a more consistent family life now that she’s a first-time mom to two-year-old daughter Daisy, whom she shares with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

‘I can literally fall [my daughter] to kindergarten and then play a show in Las Vegas,” she said of her work-life balance Additional on the red carpet for the 2022 CMA Awards.

“I’ll be back late, around 11:30 PM or something. I’m still making lunches for her.’

Perry kicked off PLAY at Resorts World Las Vegas on December 29, 2021 and has since done short stints in 2022 and 2023.

Inspired by the looks of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Pee-wee’s Playhouse and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, the singer described the show as “bigger than life” and “the craziest, most camp show I’ve ever put together.”

Consisting of a 19-song set including ET, Dark Horse, California Gurls, Waking Up in Vegas, I Kissed a Girl, Never Really Over, Teenage Dream, Roar and the breathtaking Firework. PLAY would receive critical acclaim.

The show picked up again for a sixth leg of its Sin City residency on February 15, 2023, with more shows in April, May, July, August, and October, before closing on November 4.

The last time Perry hit the road was for Witness: The Tour, in support of her fifth studio album, Witness (2017).

The tour began on September 19, 2017 and took her to cities in North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania through August 21, 2018 in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 13-time Grammy-nominated singer previously expressed interest in recording a new studio album during a performance at The Drew Barrymore Show September 2022.

Her most recent album, Smile (2020), debuted at number five on the USBillboard 200, marking Perry’s fifth top-10 album and her first since One of the Boys (2008) not to reach number one.

Perry is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 143 million records sold worldwide.
