Katt Williams reveals he had a rape scene removed from Friday After Next: 'Rape is never funny no matter who it happens to'

Katt Williams talks about his first-ever film – 2002's Friday After Next – and reveals he removed a rape scene that was in the original script.

Williams, 52, appeared on Shannon Sharpe's podcast Club Shay Shay, where he revealed that his character Money Mike was actually raped in a bathroom scene.

Although Williams admitted that he had no “appeal” in the movie business, he was still able to convince the studio and producers to discard the scene.

“The truth is that in the original script, Money Mike was raped in the bathroom and that was what (co-star) Rickey Smiley agreed to,” Williams said.

“Katt Williams, in his very first film, had to take a risk with the studios, the cast and the powers that be and say, 'Respectful, honest, humble, guys, if we're talking about anything else, 'I have no credibility and I have no appeal But we're talking about comedy, where I have all the credibility and all the appeal. The problem with Friday After Next is that we're trying to make a classic comedy, and this comedy involves rape, and rape is never funny, no matter who it happens to or whatever the circumstances are,” Williams explained.

He continued, “If you let me make this movie without a black man being raped in it, I promise you it would be twice as funny as if he were raped.”

In the scene in question, Williams' Money Mike was nearly raped in the bathroom by Damon, played by Terry Crews in only his fourth film role.

As Damon tries to rape him, Money Mike eventually gains the upper hand with the help of a wrench he finds.

Friday After Next was the third film in the franchise, following the 1995 breakout hit Friday starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker and 2000's Next Friday.

The first film was written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh (who also played Red in the film), with Cube writing both Next Friday and Friday After Next solo.

Williams also called out Smiley – who played Santa Claus in Friday After Next – who previously appeared on Sharpe's podcast.

Smiley claimed that he was originally going to play Money Mike and that Williams was going to play Santa Claus.

“Your story is that Rickey Smiley, who couldn't even say curse words because he had a Christian fan base, went and played the pimp?” Williams said.

Williams added, “Why didn't you ask him why he played a woman in more movies than a man?”

The comedian added that Smiley was “bitter” about not playing the role of Money Mike during filming, and told “everyone” that this would be his role.

Smiley responded on his radio show that he would actually play the role of Money Mike, before Williams reportedly blew the producers away with his audition.

Williams last played Willy on the FX series Atlanta and he is in pre-production on For the Love of Mine, a sequel to 2021's For the Love of Money.
