Matildas midfielder Katrina Gorry has made an emotional confession about her two-year-old daughter Harper and the shocking injury that could ruin her Olympic dream.

The 31-year-old West Ham star is currently recovering from a serious ankle injury two weeks ago, with the incident ending her Women’s Super League season.

Gorry is now racing to get fit for the Matildas, whose first match of the Olympic tournament is against Germany in Marseille on July 25.

As concerned as she is about making a timely recovery, the central midfielder says the impact the injury is having on her life as a mother is even more worrying.

“It’s hard to get injured as an athlete, but I’ve discovered over the past two weeks that it’s harder to be an injured parent,” she posted on Instagram on Sunday evening.

The Matildas midfielder says her two-year-old girl doesn’t understand why she suddenly can’t play with her after suffering a serious ankle injury (pictured)

“The disappointment in Harper’s voice when I can’t take her to the playground or just do the simplest things like wiping her off when she’s done in the toilet, chasing her around the house or just letting her climb all over me.

‘She doesn’t understand why and her emotions are so strong because of it.

“It has definitely taught me to be grateful for my health and never take the little things for granted.”

‘Sometimes Instagram can just be a highlight, so today I decided to go real & raw. For all the parents out there who are having a hard time or are feeling guilty, you understand this: these feelings are only temporary.

“A smile like that makes everything feel good.”

Gorry confirmed last year that she and her footballer fiance Clara Markstedt are expecting a child together.

They later confirmed the child’s gender, with Gorry writing: “I think we’re BOYS moms now.”

Gorry and Markstedt, 34, were teammates at Swedish club Vittsjo GIK but have since moved to London after Matilda signed for English club West Ham United.

Gorry will hopefully recover in time to play for the Matildas at the Olympics in July

Earlier this year, Gorry and Markstedt announced their engagement, with plans to get married on Hamilton Island in 2025.

“We’re going to try to keep it as traditional and beautiful as possible,” Gorry said.

“A lot of the Matildas have been my family for a long time, so they were so excited for me. “I’d like to have them there.”
