Katie Holmes steps out in casual ensemble as daughter Suri Cruise enjoys first week of college life
Katie Holmes was spotted in a colorful ensemble in New York City on Tuesday, fresh off her daughter Suri Cruise’s big move to college.
The 45-year-old Dawson’s Creek star wore an oversized sweatshirt with a colorful graffiti-esque design across it.
She paired the statement top with wide-leg, tapered jeans that looked straight out of the ’80s and black ballet flats.
She wore sunglasses, her hair loose and she carried her phone and a brown leather bag.
The sighting comes after the mother of one cub settles into her empty nest after Suri moves to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh to study at age 18.

Next month, the First Daughter star will travel to Pittsburgh for Parents Weekend at Suri’s university.
September 27 and 28 is family weekend and Katie will reportedly be allowed to visit her only child.
“Katie is looking forward to visiting her child at school, she is happy for her and wants to be a part of it,” a source told DailyMail.com.
‘Katie attended Columbia University for a while and thought it was a great experience, so she’s excited for her daughter to go to college.’
Before Family Weekend, Suri has a three-day weekend in honor of Labor Day.
Tom Cruise’s daughter, 62, moved into the dorms a week ago with Holmes’ help. Classes begin Aug. 26, according to the school’s website.
Tom, from whom Suri is estranged, will not be there, even though – DailyMail.com reported last week – he is paying the tuition, as part of his 2012 divorce settlement that required him to pay for Suri’s entire education.
When Suri turned 18 earlier this year, she officially dropped the Top Gun star’s last name and adopted her mother’s middle name, Noelle, as her new surname.

The divorce documents show that Tom pays Suri’s expenses, including “medical, dental, insurance, educational, college and other extracurricular expenses.”
“Tom does indeed pay for Suri’s tuition, he has always paid for her education and would never stop because he is a nice guy,” a friend of Tom’s told DailyMail.com. Annual tuition at CMU is $65K.
“He has never hesitated to pay his daughter’s child support and expenses. He is not honoring his word. He is honoring his obligation.”
But he likely no longer pays Katie $38,000 a year in child support, since Suri is now 18 and no longer a child.
