Katie Holmes walked around with a sore face and eyes on Monday as she hit the streets of New York.
The 45-year-old Dawson’s Creek star appeared makeup-free, but with a dark bruise under her left eye and noticeable swelling on the right side of her face.
The cause of the injury is unknown. DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for comment.
The star wore a blue T-shirt and a cap with damp hair as she walked into town.
The star’s 18-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise, is preparing to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this fall.

As her teenage daughter begins a new chapter in her life and lives away from home for the first time in months, the actress will join the cast of Poker Face.
The Toledo native, best known for her role as Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek, will guest star in the murder mystery series’ second season, alongside Natasha Lyonne.
Other guest stars include Giancarlo Esposito, Gaby Hoffmann and Kumail Nanjiani.
Poker Face previously had guest stars such as Chloë Sevigny and Judith Light.
Holmes announced her casting on Instagram on Wednesday morning.
‘Thank you [Natasha Lyonne] “I wish I could be there!” she captioned a screenshot of a Variety article confirming the exciting news.
She also described the performance as ‘a sensation’.
Earlier this month, Holmes’ daughter Suri — who now uses her mother’s middle name as her last name — graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Suri – born on April 18, 2006 in Los Angeles – is the child of divorced parents. Her father is Tom Cruise, who was married to Holmes from 2006 to 2012.
In 2014, Holmes revealed that her “main goal” as a mother is to “just let Suri know how much” she loves her.
“Just to let her know that she’s so loved. If that’s the common thread, who cares if my first two pancakes are always burnt?” she told People. “Between the tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners. I also try to have good manners so she sees that.”
The artist continues: ‘I also try to be very creative with her, because I know she’s an artist, and that appeals to the girl in me.’
During an appearance on the Today show in August 2014, Holmes shared, “The most important thing for me is to let her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything. Whatever I do, it doesn’t matter. It’s really just about her and that’s what I think is most important.”
Despite having little to no connection with her father, Suri is reportedly a cheerful and balanced teenager who loves growing up in New York City.
In recent years, Holmes has focused on making films and gaining more stage experience.
