And Katie Holmes has now spoken out about the outfit choice, which includes a satin blue dress and jeans, sharing that women need to look beyond what they’re wearing.
The actress, 44, discussed the style mishap during a recent interview with Glamor magazine, describing the resistance as “powerful language.”
She also spoke about image and role stereotypes in the industry, telling that she’s never had a desire to “be the sexy young thing.”
“I didn’t want to be the sexy young thing. I’m not sexy,” declared Katie, who rose to fame on the 1990s sitcom Dawsons Creek.

While being probed not to fall into the stereotypes of casting a young woman in Hollywood, Katie revealed that she was careful not to be portrayed in a sexualized manner.
“I used to have a friend of mine come to all my photo shoots to make sure they weren’t trying to make me like that. Yeah, I think I just wanted to be an actor,” she explained.
The actress also spoke about her recent fashion backlash that made her make headlines after performing at the Jingle Ball in December.
Katie wore a Y2K-inspired navy blue mini dress over jeans to the event, along with trainers.
Breaking the internet with the viral ensemble, many declared that the satin dress was an interesting mix with the jeans.
Her stylist previously spoke out to defend the look, saying, “We decided the top’s rich color and subtle bustier-effect details were elegant and would be fun paired with jeans.”
But less excited to talk about the look is Katie, who has kept fairly quiet about the look and still seems reluctant to talk about it.
