Katie Holmes heads to Our Town set as Broadway production nears final shows

Katie Holmes was spotted happily heading to Broadway ahead of her production of the latest run of shows of Our Town in New York City.

On Saturday, the 45-year-old actress kept a low profile as she walked to the Barrymore Theater.

She dressed in a dark winter coat and bright red pants while she covered her dark brown locks with a woven cream-colored hat.

Holmes wore a pair of maroon designer sunglasses and carried a black bag over her shoulder as she flashed a smile to fans.

She began previews for Our Town on September 17, and the production officially opened on October 10.

The show originally ran on Broadway in 1938 and became an instant classic on the American stage, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The groundbreaking metagame, narrated by a director, centers on small-town life in New Hampshire at the turn of the 20th century.

Amid a Spartan setting, characters break the fourth wall, travel back in time and even return from beyond the grave.

And after weeks in the shoes of a Grover’s Corners resident, the production is gearing up for its final run of shows.

The final show is scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater.

The revival features more diverse casting and includes Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch, Ephraim Sykes, Julie Halston, Richard Thomas and Michelle Wilson.

Holmes plays Mrs. Webb, the mother of Deutsch’s main character Emily.

In an interview with Playbill, Holmes spoke about working on the show and its new approach to the universal story.

“He didn’t want this to be a play about nostalgia,” the Dawson’s Creek alum said, referring to director Kenny Leon. “He wanted this to be a play about village life set against the stars, against humanity.”

During an appearance on The Tonight Show in late November, Tom Cruise’s ex-wife talked about her pre-show rituals and what exactly she does to prepare for an appearance on Our Town.

The Alone Together star revealed that she makes a mandatory stop at a specific Starbucks location on Eighth Avenue in New York City before every show.

“They are so beautiful,” the actress said of the baristas at the location. “Every time I go in, they know me and I know them, and they wish me a great show.”

The actress also revealed that when she arrives at the theater, she speaks her lines at least twice more, having already read through them “at home about three times.”

She added, “One time I didn’t, and I was in the middle of a scene and I just said the whole sentence except the last word. I couldn’t remember and I made something up, but it wasn’t right.’
