Katie Couric, 67, shows off nasty pickleball injury in shock photo

Katie Couric showed off a nasty pickleball injury in a shocking Instagram photo on Friday.

The broadcast icon, 67, had swelling on the right side of her head in the candid photo while wearing a Stand Up To Cancer shirt.

She captioned the photo, “When you hit yourself in the head with a pickleball paddle.”

It appeared the star had later recovered as she posed in a Christmas skirt and said she was ‘now ready to rock around the Christmas tree’.

Couric’s shirt choice was poignant as January 2025 will mark the 27th anniversary of the death of her first husband John ‘Jay’ Monaghan, who died aged just 42 from colon cancer.

The couple welcomed two daughters during their nine-year marriage: Ellie, 33, and Carrie, 28.

Ellie welcomed her first child in March 2024, a son named John in honor of his late grandfather.

Katie wrote of her daughter and son-in-law: “Mom and Dad (Ellie and Mark) are over the moon (it was a full moon).”

She said of herself, “I’m thrilled to have my first grandchild,” and she noted of her youngest daughter Carrie that she “can’t wait to be a cool aunt.”

Finally, she said of her 61-year-old financier husband John Molner:[He] likes to hand out cigars.’

Speaking on behalf of her family, she said, “We feel so blessed.”

Concluding the caption, the longtime television host wrote, “We’ll have more on Wake-Up Call tomorrow.”

Couric made sure to show her appreciation for the hospital staff when she wrote on a photo of her daughter, son-in-law and grandson, “Thank you to the amazing nurses of @providencecalifornia.”

Ellie married husband Mark on July 4, 2021.

The leading journalist – who announced in December that Ellie was expecting with husband Mark Dobrosky – revealed in March that the couple had welcomed a son named John in honor of his grandfather.

It was Katie’s late husband’s battle with cancer that inspired her efforts to increase research into bowel cancer.

Katie married Molner in 2014, two years after they met on a blind date.
