Katie Britt tells Ted Cruz it was ‘awesome’ after she was ridiculed by ‘hot’ Scarlett Johansson on Saturday Night Live

Senator Katie Britt called it “great” that actress Scarlett Johansson portrayed her on Saturday Night Live — even though the star ridiculed her as the “craziest b**** in the Target parking lot.”

Speaking to fellow Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on his podcast on Wednesday, Britt (R-Ala.) joked about how “pumped” she was to see the Black Widow actress play her on SNL -parody of her State or the rebuttal of the Union.

Cruz called Johansson “hot” and complimented the Alabama senator for getting someone of the same sex to play her on TV.

Britt was widely ridiculed for her rebuttal — especially because she told a 20-year-old story about child sex trafficking in a way that made it seem like it happened under President Joe Biden’s border policies.

Britt was criticized for her portrayal of the rebuttal, but also for telling a two-decade-old story about child sex trafficking that seemed to suggest it happened under the current president's border policies.

Johansson’s Britt said she would “come out of nowhere into a shockingly violent story about sex trafficking.” Rest assured, every detail of it is real, except the year it happened and who was president when it happened.”

But other than that, SNL’s cold open focused more on Britt’s delivery.

Cruz is no stranger to the SNL stage and has been portrayed many times on the comedy show that provides commentary on current events, pop culture and politics. Actress and comedian Aidy Bryant has played Cruz on the NBC sketch show on several occasions.

“The coolest thing was that you were played by Scarlett Johansson,” Cruz asks.

“I mean, how awesome is that?” Britt, 42, said.

“Okay, Katie, look – Scarlett Johansson is hot,” Cruz said, to which the mother of two laughed and replied, “Yes!”

“And I’m really jealous because look, SNL has come after me a bunch of times,” Cruz continued. ‘They’ll never let Tom Cruise play against me. How come you get a beautiful movie star? And you know, that’s a real compliment that you should be pretty excited about.”

“Well, I was actually pretty excited about that,” Britt said on her colleague’s podcast. “And you wonder, who in the world is going to play you, right? And I have to be honest: a 2024 bingo card for Katie Britt – it wasn’t on there.’

‘It could have been worse. I mean, Scarlett Johnannson, here’s Black Widow – bring in someone from Avengers – to play me in the cold. I’m here for it. It was a very nice moment,” she concludes.

Saturday Night Live wasted no time in mocking last week’s State of the Union address, instead focusing most of its attention on Britt’s Republican rebuttal.

Britt was mocked online after the event as her tone changed from dark and ominous to bright and lighthearted and at times deeply emotional.

On Saturday, the junior senator was played by Johansson, 39, in a surprise appearance and hilarious take on the senator.

Cruz joked about Britt being played by the same gender. “At least you were played by a woman,” he said in a podcast interview with Britt. 'I was also played by a woman. Pictured: Actress and comedian Aidy Bryant (center) portrays Cruz on SNL

“Good evening America, my name is Katie Britt and I am honored to serve the people of the great state of Alabama. But tonight I’m auditioning for the role of ‘Scary Mom.’ I will perform an original monologue titled “This Country is Hell,” Johansson said as she gave her rendition of Britt’s speech.

“You see, I’m not just a senator, I’m a wife, a mother and the craziest b***h in the Target parking lot, concerned about the future of our children.”

Cruz had nothing but praise for Johansson’s portrayal, emphasizing how “cool” it was to have Britt played by the A-list actress.

“In terms of Republican portrayals — they’ve had some vitriolic ones,” the Texas Republican said. “Okay, let’s start with – at least you were played by a woman.”

“When SNL had me, I was also played by a woman,” Cruz added. “They cast Aidy Bryant as me. And she’s really funny

“She looks pretty good with her beard, by the way.”

Johansson, in her role as Senator Britt, said she told her children last Thursday that “mommy freaked out the whole country” in her rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

During the real-life Republican response on Thursday night, Britt told a story about a sex trafficking victim that she used as fodder to criticize the current chaos at the southern border under the Biden administration.

But the story of Karla Jacinto Romero’s horror film about child sex trafficking dates back to 2004-2008, when President George W. Bush was in power.

Some accused Britt of using the story to stoke hatred against illegal immigrants and migrants seeking asylum at the southern border.

Johansson concluded her mocking speech at the fear-mongering progressives Republicans are accused of being at the border by saying, “The American people who are struggling right now know this: We hear you. We’ll see you. We smell you. We are now in your kitchen looking through your refrigerator. And what is there on the top shelf? Migrants.’
