Kathy Griffin ended marriage to Randy Bick because he had become a ‘homebody’ who failed to share her lust for life – and despite being ‘heartbroken’ she felt divorce was the ‘ONLY way’ to ‘be Kathy again’

Kathy Griffin has split from husband Randy Bick after he became too much of a “homebody” and no longer shared her enthusiasm for life, insiders claim.

Griffin, 63, filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court last Thursday citing “irreconcilable differences,” three years after the now estranged couple tied the knot on New Year's Day 2020.

The pop culture personality reportedly felt like divorce was the only option if she ever wanted to feel like herself again after “growing apart” from 45-year-old Bick.

“Kathy was and is still in love with her ex and as heartbroken as she is about how this all turned out, Kathy loves life,” an insider told DailyMail.com.

“Kathy hates that it ended this way, but she needed to be Kathy again, and this was the only way she was going to get there,” a source told DailyMail.com

'She always wants to have fun. She wants to travel and do things with a man she loves and who has the same ambitions.

“Kathy is a little over 60 but still feels in her 30s and wants to enjoy life and has a fun and focused outlook on life and Randy shared that with her.”

However, the source added, “Randy has been more content with being a roommate lately and instead of growing together, they started growing apart.”

Griffin first met the marketing executive – who is 18 years her junior – at a food and wine festival in 2011 before getting married in 2020 in a ceremony officiated by fellow comedian Lily Tomlin.

News of their breakup was announced last week, with Griffin listing their separation date as December 22, 2023.

On December 29, TMZ broke the news that she had filed for divorce.

She confirmed the report via her Instagram, with a message that simply read: 'Well…s**t. This sucks. -Kathy Griffin.'

She was clearly struggling to cope with the breakup during New Year's celebrations on Sunday and told her social media followers that she had turned to friend and actress, Jane Fonda, 86, for support.

She wrote with a photo of the couple: 'My friends are going to help me through this. Last night I had to use the bat phone. I… “Fonda, it's Griffin. My heart is broken. I can't eat, I can't sleep.” Jane…'Come on, boy. I'll make something for you. You eat and I listen.”

Griffin has spoken openly about her relationship with Bick, previously revealing she thought it would be nothing more than a one-night stand.

Speak with People in 2016 she revealed that her first impression was that he was a 'man-w***e'.

She added: “He's just like a regular guy, you know, he's like a real man. He's not like a Hollywood guy.'

The divorce follows a major health crisis for Griffin.

In August 2021, she announced that she had been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer, despite never having smoked.

Thanks to a quick surgical procedure, she was reportedly cancer-free by November of that same year.
