Kathy Bates, 76, finally sets record straight on those Ozempic rumors amid 100lbs weight loss
Kathy Bates has admitted that she has lost 20 pounds with the help of Ozempic.
The actress, 76, who has lost a total of 100 pounds, confirmed how she managed to lose the weight during an interview with People.
Bates has lost 35 pounds over the past seven years, which she accomplished by changing what she ate and changing her overall lifestyle, she told the outlet.
With Ozempic she managed to lose the last 20 pounds.
“There’s been a lot of talk that I was just able to do this because of Ozempic,” she told the publication. “But I have to make it clear to the people there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.’

Bates revealed that she really started making improvements to her health after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes seven years ago.
“I ate because I was scared, and I ate because it affected my self-esteem,” she said. “Diabetes]runs in my family, and I had seen what my father had gone through. He had undergone a leg amputation. One of my sisters takes it very seriously and it terrified me. It scared me straight away.’
Bates then embarked on a health and fitness journey that saw her ditch fast food and stop eating at 8 p.m.
“I used to eat terribly: burgers and cokes and pizza,” she admitted.
Her niece also shared advice about the signals bodies send to indicate they are full: “When we are full, we experience an involuntary sigh,” Bates shared.
“I just pushed the sign away,” she added.
That said, Bates allows himself to indulge every now and then.
The day prior to her interview, a food truck from Pink visited the Paramount lot where Bates was filming, and she enjoyed her first hot dog in quite some time.

“Oh my God, I hadn’t had a hot dog in so long. Today I’m going to get back on track,” she said.
The weight loss has also given Bates relief from lymphedema, a condition she was diagnosed with after undergoing a double mastectomy in 2012 amid her previous battle with breast cancer.
Lymphedema occurs due to “swelling of the tissue caused by a buildup of protein-rich fluid that normally drains through the body’s lymphatic system,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
‘I’m lucky that I don’t have to wear my compression stockings every day. It’s so exciting to be able to put my arm in a jacket and it fits,” Bates told People.

“Physically, I am capable of doing this show,” she explained. ‘I don’t have to sit down. I can stand and walk all day and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t do before.’
Bates’ confirmation that she was taking Ozempic came after fueling speculation that she had achieved the weight loss with the medication.
