Katherine Schwarzenegger throws SHADE at Met Gala after naked looks took over red carpet… as she shares throwback of her mom at gala in 2001
Katherine Schwarzenegger has thrown some serious shade at the Met Gala and its A-list attendees in a cheeky Instagram Stories post — suggesting she no longer believes the glittering soiree is “chic” or “stylish.”
The 34-year-old author made the pointed comment while sharing a photo of her mother Maria Shriver, who attended the star-studded event 23 years ago, showing her in an elegant and demure lilac dress.
Katherine made her thoughts clear on this year’s red carpet – where a slew of stars eschewed underwear and wore daring, near-nude dresses – and captioned the photo: “When the Met gala was chic and stylish.”
And the writer – who recently sparked outrage when she and husband Chris Pratt demolished the historic 1950s LA home – wasn’t the only member of her family to bring out the increasingly raunchy dress code at the gala.
On her own Instagram account, Maria, 68, shared the same image, noting how much things have changed since she attended the gala in 2001.
Katherine Schwarzenegger, 34, threw shade at the Met Gala by uploading to her Instagram Stories a throwback photo of her mother, Maria Shriver, who attended the annual event 23 years earlier; seen in March 2023 in Beverly Hills
Above the photo, Katherine added the text: ‘When the met gala was chic and classy’
“It’s the first Monday in May and the Met Gala has started!” she wrote. ‘When I was there in 2001 things were a bit quieter, but I thought I would share some photos of that beautiful evening.’
‘Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I also got to be there with both my parents and my niece Caroline.’
Finally, the former First Lady of California asked her followers, “What do you think: should we rock the same looks on the red carpet tonight?”
The footage also showed Shriver wearing a sleeveless, lilac dress that clung to her body and also draping a sheer scarf around her shoulders.
Her hair was done in a classic updo, easily revealing a pair of dangling, sparkling earrings that added a striking shine to the look.
The 2024 Met Gala took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the new exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code for guests was The Garden of Time.
A number of celebrities were in attendance on Monday earlier this week, including Zendaya – who wowed in three stunning ensembles – as well as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Gigi Hadid, Cardi B and Kendall Jenner.
Some stars paraded the red carpet in daring ensembles, such as Rita Ora, Doja Cat and also Emily Ratajkowski. Ora wore a nude outfit with strips of colorful fabric falling down the middle and behind her back.
The Streets hitmaker wore a white dress that clung to her body, while her make-up depicted mascara running down her face. And the model turned heads in a sheer, silver-patterned dress that left little to the imagination.
Others, however, were noticeably absent from the festivities, like Selena Gomez — who was “busy at work,” a source recently confirmed. People on Tuesday.
The actress wasn’t the only A-list celebrity to opt out of the gala, with other stars including Khloe Kardashian, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Rihanna and Taylor Swift missing from the red carpet.

The Gossip Girl alum and her husband opted to stay home with their family instead, a source said Elle that “the couple chose to spend the night at home, rather than on the red carpet.”
Swift also devastated fans when she failed to appear for the eighth year in a row.
Last April, it was reported that the Bad Blood hitmaker and boyfriend Travis Kelce would not be attending the Met Gala.
And the real reason why Taylor and Kelce wouldn’t attend turned out to be Swift’s conflicting dates for the Eras Tour, which kicks off in France on May 9.
Rihanna also had to skip the event because she was “sick with the flu,” a source revealed People.
Katherine’s Met Gala hue arrives shortly after both she and husband, Chris Pratt, sparked outrage after demolishing a 1950s LA home to build a ranch-style mansion.
The famous couple bought the Brentwood property known as Zimmerman House last year for $12.5 million and it was designed by architect Craig Ellwood.
But they have demolished the nostalgic property and plan to replace it with a sprawling 15,000-square-foot ranch-style mansion.
The move has angered architecture enthusiasts who claim the house was in good condition with its original features intact.

The historic property was previously owned by Hilda Rolfe, who was married to Sam Rolfe – the co-creator of the series The Man from Uncle, before she passed away in 2022.
Architectural Digest has claimed that architect Ken Ungar will design the property for the couple.
Located across the street from Katherine’s mother Maria Shriver, the home will include a three-car garage and a secondary unit near the pool.
The Los Angeles Conservancy, which works to protect and preserve historic buildings, warned in January about the demolition of the 1950s building.
Social media users are angry at Pratt and his wife for demolishing the historic property in favor of a mansion.
“They couldn’t build their SHEIN McMansion somewhere else?” one asked, while another said, “More proof that money can’t buy good taste.”
