Katherine Ryan Reveals Why She Cast Pigeon In The Masked Singer And Shares Her Mastitis Nightmare

Katherine Ryan was introduced as the star playing Pigeon during The Masked Singer on Saturday night.

And now the 39-year-old Canadian comedian has spilled the beans about her show, including why she chose that character and why she decided to put on an Essex accent.

Speaking on her podcast Katherine Ryan: Telling Everybody Everything, the celeb, who was eight months pregnant at the time of filming, said she was drawn to the outfit because she “didn’t have a small waist” and could be “a bit of a little naughty’.

She said: ‘They showed me some costumes they had on the go. Some of the costumes had faces and some did not. And I never want to be something without a face. I just don’t feel like I connect as much as a viewer with the faceless.

‘They showed me some sexy costumes. And then they showed me a pigeon and I thought, yeah, that’s it. I want to be an old bird.

Behind the scenes: Katherine Ryan, 39, has revealed the secrets of her show, including why she chose the character of Pigeon and why she decided to put on an Essex accent.

‘Not too glam, certainly not too thin on the waist because I was pregnant at the time. I think she was six months pregnant when they started making the costume and she didn’t know how big she would be at eight months pregnant.

‘And I thought so, give me this old Nana pigeon. I love Nana’s. I feel like they can get away with being a little naughty.

‘Nana pigeon could have the Essex accent I could do. She might also have a taste in music that doesn’t match her age.

On the show, many viewers joked that Pigeon could be The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins.

But speaking about the accent, he said: “I can only do sort of an Essex accent because I watch a lot of reality TV.”

Explaining why she decided to take on a different voice, she said, “When I’m out in the world, nobody really recognizes me that often until I speak and then they know it’s me.”

‘So I thought okay, I’m very competitive. I wanted to play the game. So I thought I’d do an Essex accent.

“I don’t do it perfectly, but it’s the accent I’ve come closest to achieving in the UK. And you know, even if it sounds like someone is doing a fake accent, they might think it’s a Scottish person or some kind of Northerner who doesn’t have an Essex accent properly, so I could get away with it.

Katherine was kicked off the show after landing in the bottom two after receiving the fewest votes along with co-star Jacket Potato when the episode aired last weekend.

Before Katherine was unmasked, panelist Jonathan Ross guessed it was actress Liza Tarbuck in the Pigeon costume, while Rita Ora predicted model Jodie Kidd, Davina McCall guessed Loose Woman Nadia Sawalha, and Mo Gilligan guessed the actress. Emily Attack.

Meanwhile, since filming, Katherine has admitted to suffering from mastitis, an inflammation of the breast tissue that sometimes implies infection and often occurs along with breastfeeding.

Attending a concert in Telford, Katherine recalled on her podcast how, despite running a high fever, she kept going.

She said: ‘I had to work on Friday night. You guys know I’ll be dragging myself bleeding down the highway to get to work, so I wasn’t going to cancel.

‘It was this incredible event. I must say that if anyone who was listening was at this event, the girls looked especially glamorous. I think anyone in the room could have fucked Pete Davidson that night.

‘Not my best performance, maybe less abs. I hadn’t done stand up in a long time.

“I think the last time was in mid-November at an event before Fenna was born. And I felt a little rusty. Also, she was very, very sick. But she had to be there.

Funny: Joking that some viewers thought she was former The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins acting as Pigeon, Katherine said: “I can only do sort of an Essex accent.”

Class act: The judges chose Fawn, Rhino, Phoenix, Knitting, Jellyfish and Otter, all moving on to the next round of the show when it returns next weekend (L-R: Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross)

This comes when Katherine revealed that she refused to tell her 12-year-old daughter Violet that she was going on the show because she was convinced she wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret and would “tell the whole school”.

Taking to Instagram, Katherine shared a clip of Violet being in complete shock when Katherine removed her pigeon costume’s head during the pre-recorded episode of the show.

Katherine had tried to convince her that it was former The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins who was competing.

Outraged that her mother hadn’t told her that she would be appearing on The Masked Singer, Violet threw her hands up in the air as she was stunned by what she saw on the screen.

Surprise! Katherine took to Instagram on Sunday to share her daughter Violet’s shocked reaction after she revealed herself as Pigeon during The Masked Singer on Saturday night.

She got up from the sofa and walked across the room to the kitchen at the back in complete shock.

Violet said, ‘Obviously. I knew it the whole time I knew it wasn’t Gemma. Why would you lie?

As Katherine could be heard laughing as she filmed the clip on her phone, Violet added: ‘You said you weren’t in it? I knew it.’

As her newborn baby girl Fenna Grace made noises off-camera, Katherine said: ‘Aww Fenna can’t believe it.’

Katherine gave birth to her third child Fenna in December and was a month away from giving birth while filming last year.

Revealed: Katherine’s clip opened with her filming her TV at home as she removed her pigeon costume’s head during the pre-taped episode.
