Katherine Ryan admits her children ‘ruined the life she had before’ she became a mother

Katherine Ryan candidly admitted how her three children “ruined the life she had before she became a mother.”

The comedian, 40, admitted that since having children she hasn’t been able to continue doing all the things she could do before.

Katherine shares two of her children Fenna Grace, 14 months, and Fred, two, with her husband, Bobby Kootstra, and Violet 14, with ex-boyfriend Alex Edelman.

Speaking to Woman magazine, she said: ‘My children have enriched my life, they are such a blessing and I would never trade them for anything.

‘But I’d be lying if I said they didn’t ruin the life I had before. But I rebuilt a better one and that’s fine.

“I’d be pretending if I said I could still do all the things I could do before, and I think we’re selling this fantasy of what motherhood means if we’re not honest about that.”

Katherine also recently admitted that her “marriage has taken a backseat” when she opened up about her relationship with Bobby, who she married in 2019, on Lorraine in February.

She said her children come first and she enjoys spending as much time with them as possible, including co-sleeping.

Speaking on the ITV daytime show, ahead of the release of her new docuseries, Katherine Ryan: Parental Guidance, she said she is still “navigating” parenthood and struggling with mother guilt.

She told Lorraine Kelly: ‘I have a great life because I do exactly what is right for the family and I welcome the haters.

“The show is about doing it your way, and my way is not the way for every family.

“Personally, I co-sleep, I spend so much time with my kids and I’m an attached parent.

‘I potty trained them at a very young age, which was controversial, I wear them everywhere. Maybe my marriage is taking a back seat because of the co-sleeping.

Katherine Ryan appeared on Lorraine on Monday, where she revealed her marriage to Bobby Kootstra has ‘taken a backseat’ due to their family life with three children

“It’s a struggle, and I’m so privileged to be able to stay at home, my dad and I have the resources and a nanny, but that doesn’t stop my kids from screaming, so I’m torn.

‘For example, how do I get to work? My job is so much fun and it’s not like I’m on the front lines saving lives. I’m greedy, my job is fun.’

The docuseries explores the ways in which Katherine and her partner Bobby differ on their parenting strategies and how they can reconcile those differences.

During a preview clip, Bobby said, “We have different parenting styles. Katherine and I now sleep separately with the kids because the babies kept waking each other up.

“Two more years, honestly, unless we have more kids.”

Katherine added: “I wish we could have another one, no one says on their deathbed that I wish I had fewer children.”

The TV presenter further revealed that her marriage was tested during filming of the new series when her mother came over from Canada to live with the family.

She continued, “My mother came over from Canada and we saw what grandparents help is like.

“I don’t know how great it was that my mom lived with us for my husband, but the kids were fine with it.”

After her appearance on the ITV show, Katherine changed into a more comfortable outfit as she headed to Global FM.

She paired gray sweatpants with a matching sweatshirt and sneakers.

The comedian donned a stylish long black coat over the song and carried her belongings in a large handbag.

Katherine and Bobby have been together since 2018, but have known each other since they were children and grew up together in Canada.

Childhood sweethearts, the two initially broke up before rekindling things on this side of the Atlantic.

The couple entered into a civil partnership in 2019 and headed to Denmark for the ceremony, with Katherine previously telling The Jonathan Ross Show: ‘It was a beautiful day. It is perfect to have a civil partner.

“We didn’t have a wedding, I didn’t have to put on a white dress and pretend to be a virgin, that ship has sailed!”
