Katherine Jenkins reveals ‘daunting experience’ while being directed by her husband Andrew Levitas with A-list actors in Minamata

Katherine Jenkins revealed the 'horrifying experience' she had when she was directed by her husband Andrew Levitas for the film Minamata.

The opera singer, 43, said the collaboration overall “went quite well” as she chatted on The Jonathan Ross Show, Christmas Special, which aired on Christmas Eve (December 24).

The Welsh mezzo-soprano told the presenter that she ended up in a scene with Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy during filming.

Minamata is a 2020 biographical drama film set in 1971 and in which photographer W. Eugene Smith travels to a city in Japan ravaged by mercury poisoning.

Katherine said: “I was kind of talked into the role. I don't have much experience doing this kind of thing.

The opera singer, 43, said her experience overall 'went quite well' (pictured with her husband Andrew in November)

'I was in a scene with Johnny Depp and Bill Nighy, which was quite intimidating. But they were very patient and encouraging.

'I hadn't seen him (my husband) in a situation like that before, so it was great to see what he does and how much he loves it.

'That obviously went quite well, because we started a company together this year. We clearly enjoy working together.'

This isn't the first time they've worked together, as they both co-own their gin company, Cygnet Welsh Dry Gin.

Katherine added: “We have a gin company. We are both creatives.

“We don't always agree and we don't always have to agree, but there's quite a time when we're in a board meeting and I realize it sounds like we're having a homely atmosphere and everyone else is saying, “Okay, we'll tackle this later”…'.

Katherine and Andrew, 46, celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary in September.

She took to Instagram to share sweet snaps with her husband as she reflected on her relationship.

The duo tied the knot at Hampton Court Palace in 2014 and the mezzo-soprano wore a traditional white Suzanne Neville dress.

The American artist and Katherine share two children together, Aaliyah Reign, seven, and Xander Robert, four.

Katherine said in her post: '9 years ago I followed my heart and it turned out to be my best decision yet.

'The number 9 represents patience, harmony, friendship, spirituality, unity, strength and completion.

“All the words I understand, all the words that reflect our marriage. Happy 9th birthday, my love! @andrewlevitas #marriage #wedding #weddinganniversary #nine #katherinejenkins #andrewlevitas.”

The album featured a series of loved-up snaps of the couple as they enjoyed holidays together and shared special moments.

Katherine and Andrew had been dating for a year and were engaged for five months when they tied the knot.

Their first public appearance was when Andrew accompanied Katherine to collect her OBE at Buckingham Palace.

She was previously engaged to TV presenter Gethin Jones in February 2011, but they announced on December 30, 2011 that they were no longer together.

The Jonathan Ross Show Christmas Special airs on ITX on Christmas Eve from 9am and airs on ITV1 at 10.15pm.
