Katherine attack: Woman, 36, dies two weeks after she was allegedly brutally bashed by her ex
A woman who was seriously injured after she was allegedly attacked by her ex-partner in a ‘serious act of domestic violence’ has died.
The 36-year-old woman lost her battle for her life on Monday night, 11 days after the alleged incident in a public place in Katherine in the Northern Territory outback.
Five days later, after the alleged July 11 attack, the woman was taken to Katherine Hospital in critical condition.
Two days later she was transferred to the Royal Darwin Hospital, where she spent six days in a coma in intensive care before succumbing to her injuries.
Last Friday, a 45-year-old man was arrested and charged with recklessly endangering life, intentionally causing serious injury and causing damage.
It is not yet clear how serious the injuries the woman sustained before her death were.
Police had previously reported that the woman stated that she had been hit on the head.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are working with the Public Prosecution Service as police continue to investigate the incident.
