“Our beloved Queen Elizabeth dies and they lose the safety of their grandmother.

“Then Will’s father has only just had his damn coins printed and suddenly he’s really worried too.

“Then they’ve got a damn uncle that no one wants, because Andrew’s arrogance and naivety is just beyond me.

“I’ve been in the same room as him and believe me, that was enough.”

Mr Goldsmith is now a multi-millionaire businessman, but he and Kate’s mother, Carole, grew up in a council estate in west London. He described their upbringing as ‘diverse’, like a ‘Woolies pick’n’mix counter’.

He said in the interview that this is why he is “so angry” that Meghan accused Kate of being racist. “Kate knows her family roots and is proud of them,” he added

Mr Goldsmith has now apologized for his actions on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He said: ‘As many will have seen, I will be in the Times Magazine on Saturday.

‘This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and was printed before I found out about the sad news about my niece Kate.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the rest of the family at this difficult time and deeply upset by the timing of this article.

‘I hope this draws a line to the constant speculation and terrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William and the kids some time and some love back.”

Mr Goldsmith enjoyed a close bond with his niece, the Princess of Wales, over the years.

Kate was a bridesmaid at Goldsmith’s first wedding to sales manager Miranda Foote in 1991, and her uncle previously revealed how the heartbroken royal sought solace at his Ibiza villa after a split with William.

Prince William and Kate stayed at Mr Goldsmith’s villa in Ibiza in 2006, and he has warm words for the future king, describing him as both “down-to-earth” and “charming.”
