Kate’s sad news should give the press pause for thought | Short letters

Regarding the recent coverage of the Princess of Wales (too much to mention), may I say on behalf of many readers that a period of silence from you on this matter would now be very welcome (Catherine, Princess of Wales, is receiving chemotherapy treatment for cancer , March 22nd)?

Professor Regan admits his family eats “ice cream” all year round (Letters, March 21). Well, here in West Yorkshire one of the first signs of spring is the familiar sound of Dixon’s ice cream van. That’s ice cream, freshly made, straight from the cow.

I took with me a CD of my beloved String Quintet in C by Schubert when I had to have cataract surgery (Letters, March 21). The machines used were so noisy that Schubert was lost to me. But the surgical team told me afterwards how much they enjoyed the music.

As for “spending a penny” (Letters, March 20), our newly refurbished toilet facilities at Derby bus station now cost 50p. A combination of coins may be used, but no change will be given. The users of the North Yorkshire coast can count themselves lucky.

Politicians over the years have had the opportunity to join a range of parties, including Reclaim, Renew, Reform and Respect. I would like to propose a new party, the Reflux Party. This could attract politicians who keep popping up to annoy us and leave a bad taste in our mouths.
