The head of Kate Middleton’s children’s charity has been revealed as a murderer stabbing an expectant father to death on a train.
Action for Children CEO Paul Carberry, 60, met the Princess of Wales, the charity’s patroness, last year.
The £154,500 a year boss also has a role in the Serious and Organized Taskforce in his native Scotland. As Strand Lead for Divert, he is responsible for preventing people from becoming involved in serious organized crime.
But in 1979, when he was 16, he stabbed 21-year-old John Murray five times and injured another passenger.
“That’s something I’ve regretted every day of my life. A family didn’t have their loved one because of me,” he told the Mirror.

When asked if it still haunts him, he added, “Of course. For me, and especially for the work I’m in and come from a close-knit family, a loving family.
“That has definitely been a factor in my life. And actually, it’s been a factor in what I’ve done since.”
He said he had not spoken about his past out of respect for the victim and their family.

The train was carrying Scottish football fans to London for a game against England and Carberry – who court records say was part of Glasgow’s stalwart Goven Team gang – had been drinking beer and vodka.
The violence started after a member of his gang assaulted a female passenger, the court said.

He reportedly held a knife as he chased Murray – first he stabbed Michael McBain, 22, who was sleeping on the floor.
Carberry then stabbed Murray when the tragic father-to-be became trapped by a locked door.
He was later arrested when the train stopped in Warrington, Cheshire, before being found guilty in December that year at the age of 17.
The teenager pleaded not guilty at Chester Crown Court – claiming the knife was one he confiscated from someone else and that he had no recollection of the trip after being headbutted by Murray when they argued over a girl.
He reportedly showed little emotion – he received a punishment at Her Majesty’s pleasure – which meant he would be imprisoned until it was decided that he would be safely released.
He spent time in juvenile and adult prison before being released in 1985, got a job as a social worker and rose through the ranks.
A spokesperson for Action for Children told the Mirror: ‘The trustees who appointed Paul Carberry as CEO did so with full knowledge of his past, which is a public matter.
He joined AfC in 1994 as a manager. The organization knew its past completely. Paul has helped thousands of children and young people, including those involved in crime, helping many find jobs, avoid criminal exploitation and reach their potential. Prior to the interview for the CEO, he had a conversation with the chairman about his conviction.
