Kate Winslet reveals she ‘clicked immediately’ with Leonardo DiCaprio while working on Titanic: ‘We connected on so many levels’

Kate Winslet has described how she and Leonardo DiCaprio 'instantly clicked' on the set of their 1997 epic romance film Titanic.

Winslet talked about their friendship during an appearance in Titanic: Stories from the Heart, a new featurette on the bonus disc of the film's 4K Ultra HD release.

The performer, who was recently featured in newly released behind-the-scenes footage from the film's set, also opened up about how she still stays in touch with the 49-year-old actor more than 25 years after the film's release.

Winslet started her interview by talking about how DiCaprio's energetic attitude quickly endeared him to the cast and crew of Titanic.

She remembered via Entertainment tonight: 'He was kind of a mess of long, skinny, uncoordinated limbs. And he was just very free with himself, and he had this vibrant energy that was really magnetic.”

The Oscar-winning actress recalled thinking, “Oh, this is going to be fun. We certainly get along well.' And we just really did that. We really did that.'

The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind actress then said that she found working with DiCaprio completely natural.

'Once I started working with Leo, we were able to find our own rhythm. And it's great to look back and think about it again,” she recalled.

Winslet also revealed that she still kept in close contact with The Wolf Of Wall Street star.

'We are connected on so many levels. That sense of focusing on the craft and still caring deeply about it to this day,” she said.

She added: 'We always call straight away. There's no such thing as, “Wait a minute, I'll call you tomorrow.” It's immediate. And that's actually something.'

Titanic was about a teenager from a wealthy family who builds a relationship with a working-class passenger during the passenger ship's tragic journey.

In addition to Winslet and DiCaprio, the film also starred artists such as Billy Zane, Kathy Bates and Bill Paxton.

The feature became an instant hit with critics and currently has an 88% rating Rotten tomatoes.

Titanic also grossed almost $2 billion during its initial release period, although it has since surpassed that mark after being re-released several times.

The film also had the distinction of being the highest-grossing film of all time for several years, although it was eventually passed by the 2009 science fiction film Avatar, which was also directed by Cameron.

Titanic was nominated for a total of 14 Academy Awards and won 11, including Best Picture.
