Kate Winslet reveals she ‘refused to cover up her belly rolls’ after a crew member told her to during filming – as she poses topless for Harper’s Bazaar

Kate Winslet has revealed she ‘refused to cover her stomach rolls’ after a crew member told her off during filming of her latest movie Lee.

The Oscar-winning actress, 48, spoke candidly about the incident as she embraced her natural beauty while posing topless in the sea for her recent shoot with Harper’s Bazaar.

The star plays model and former World War II photographer Lee Miller in the biopic, an adaptation of Antony Penrose’s 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller.

However, during filming, Kate revealed that a crew member had advised her to sit up straighter to hide her rolls.

Kate told the magazine: ‘There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew came up between takes and said, “Maybe you should sit up a bit straighter.”

“So you can’t see my belly rolls? Never! It was intentional, you know?”

She also admitted that she doesn’t mind looking less than perfect on screen, explaining, “The opposite. I’m proud of it because it’s my life on my face, and that’s important. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”

Kate starred in one of the most iconic nude scenes of all time in 1997’s Titanic, playing the role of Rose. She lay on a couch and asked her lover Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, to “paint her like one of his French girls.”

Meanwhile, while filming a sex scene for Mare Of Easttown in 2021, Kate wanted her character to be portrayed as ‘a fully functioning, disabled woman with a body and face that move in a way that is appropriate for her age.’

“I think we’re a little bit deprived of that,” she said of the dearth of unfiltered and realistic female bodies in films and on television during an interview with the The New York Times.

While she admits that her “not so glamorous” appearance in the series may come as a surprise to some viewers, she said she turned down director Craig Zobel’s offer to cut out “a round belly.”

“Don’t you dare,” she remembered telling him after he assured her the broadcast would not happen.

She also received a lot of flak for returning the promotional poster for the series twice “because it was too edited,” even though she knows for sure how many “wrinkles” she actually has around her eyes.

The star will celebrate her 50th birthday next year, but feels very comfortable in her own skin and has a lot of self-confidence.

She told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘I feel a huge sense of relief that women are accepting themselves so much more and refusing to be judged.

‘Because I don’t know a single person my age who grew up with a mom who looked in the mirror and said, “I look nice!” My mom never did that: she was always like, “Oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look hippie, does my butt look big?”

“We waste so much time thinking negatively about ourselves, and I’m never going to do that again.”

She added: ‘I think people know better than to say, ‘Maybe you should do something about those wrinkles.’

“I feel more comfortable in myself as the years go by. It allows me to let the opinions of others evaporate.”

Kate came into the spotlight at the age of 20 when she starred in a 1995 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense And Sensibility.

Kate also admitted that she doesn’t mind looking less than perfect on screen, as she explained, “The opposite. I’m proud of it because it’s my life on my face, and that’s important. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”
