Kate Upton admitted she knew very little about the grueling schedule of the MLB when she met her future husband, Justin Verlander.
The actress and model, who became a baseball player and married the Astros pitcher in 2017, added baseball coaching to her resume, saying she fell in love before realizing how chaotic her life would become.
“Being a baseball wife is absolutely insane, this schedule is crazy, it’s so long. I didn’t know,” the 32-year-old said on Monday’s episode of the Chicks in the Office podcast.
“I fell in love by accident. I had no idea there were so many games,” she continued.
Upton explained that MLB spring training begins in February, followed by the 162-game regular season, which runs for six months from late March to late September.

The post-season then lasts another month.
“No consecutive days off, just Monday and Thursday,” she said, joking that those were her favorite days of the week.
“I think, ‘I don’t see him, especially when you’re in the final stretch of the playoffs and baseball season is so exciting. But then you think, ‘I haven’t seen my husband in months, they have to win,'” she continued.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model continued, “Seeing someone you love walking around there and not having any control over them was a totally new experience. I just felt this nervous energy go through me, like, ‘Oh no!'”
“And you want them to do well and you want them to feel good, you know, he’s my guy. I want him to come home and be happy and not be disappointed with how he played or what happened.”

The actress and the pitcher met in 2012. They now have one daughter together
Verlander made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2005.
The two-time World Series champion has since spent six seasons in Houston, with the exception of a stint with the New York Mets in 2023.
Upton and Verlander met in 2012 and in 2016 he got down on one knee.
The following year, they tied the knot, just days after he won the World Series with the Astros.
They now have a six-year-old daughter, Genevieve ‘Vivi’ Upton Verlander.
