Kate Ritchie reveals her close relationship with John Farnham: ‘I was the happiest little girl in Australia’
Kate Ritchie has been a longtime fan of John Farnham after they appeared together in Home and Away.
The veteran actress, 44, revealed that in 1988, John Farnham played himself in two episodes of the popular drama, in a funny storyline where he visited her ailing character.
‘I remember being the happiest little girl in Australia. My character Sally Fletcher won tickets to see him perform but at the last minute she contracted chicken pox,” she told Channel Seven’s Spotlight.
“But because he’s such a great guy… he decided to come back to Summer Bay and visit Sally in her pajamas,” she added.
Kate went on to say that Farnham, 74, represented so many great things about life in Australia.

“He’s an incredible talent and so likeable, I feel like he represented what Australia was all about. Not only was he our soundtrack, but he was the man you wanted to be friends with.”
Ritchie added the experience, in which Farnham sang to her character in bed, made her a lifelong fan and she still listens to his music to this day.
‘His song Burn For You is a favourite. I think if you’re celebrating the nation and you’re not playing against Farnham, you’re not doing well.’
