Kate Ritchie admits she once asked Silverchair to be her date to the Logies in the ’90s
They were once Australia’s biggest band.
And former Home and Away star Kate Ritchie has confessed she was a big fan of Silverchair during its 90s heyday.
The 49-year-old said she even went as far as to ask members of the band to accompany both herself and her co-star Isla Fisher to the Logies.
She made the surprising revelation Nova’s 69.9 Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Wednesday.
Silverchair bassist Chris Joannou, 43, and drummer Ben Gillies, 43, appeared as guests on the breakfast show and told Kate they never got the invite.

“If that were true and you had received the letter, would you have come with me and Isla?” Kate asked, putting the hitmakers on the spot.
“Since we’ve read them all (our fan letters), that (one) must have gotten lost in the mail,” Chris replied, after laughing off Kate’s suggestion.
“Kate and Isla Fisher are still waiting for answers,” co-host Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald teased.
Later, Ryan forced the issue and told the rockers that Kate was still up for a date at next year’s Logies.
“Yes, we do,” Chris joked.

The trio of school friends formed the group as teenagers and rose to stunning fame in the 1990s before splitting in 2011. But since then, Chris and Ben have become estranged from their former bandmate, Daniel Johns.
The pair have just published a comprehensive book about their time in Silverchair, entitled Love & Pain.
Elsewhere in the chat, the rockers were asked about their breakup with Johns and their painful memories.
“I’d say the messiness surrounding the band’s breakup,” Ben replied.
“And the lack of communication between the three of us is hard to swallow. and there was no closure because it was up in the air for so long,” he continued.
“I think that was one of the reasons for doing the book, it will give us the closure we’ve been wanting for so long.”
When asked if they had made an effort to discuss the split with all members, Ben simply said, “No.”
It comes after Johns bumped into Gillies and Joannou during an appearance on The Project in September 2022, where he branded his estranged friends as ‘bitter, jealous, angry’.
Mentioning Gillies, he said the drummer had a “real problem” with his fame, claiming both of his former bandmates “never came to see him.”
Neither Gillies nor Joannou responded at the time.
Formed in 1992 in the NSW coastal city of Newcastle, Silverchair made headlines with their first album Frogstomp in 1995, selling 10 million records worldwide.
