Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designer Sarah Burton gets top job at Givenchy

The woman who designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress has been appointed creative director of Givenchy.

Sarah Burton will take on the role at the LVMH-owned fashion house after stepping down from Alexander McQueen last year.

The 50-year-old British designer is best known for designing the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress in 2011 and Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress.

Burton began her career in 1997 at fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s eponymous fashion brand and worked her way up.

In February 2010, she became creative director, following McQueen’s death.

In addition to the royal family, singer Lady Gaga and actress Cate Blanchett are also fans of Burton’s designs.

She said: ‘It is a great honour to join the wonderful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring my own vision, sensibility and beliefs to Givenchy.’

Givenchy, known for its luxury handbags and fragrance, has been part of the £256 billion LVMH empire since 1988. Burton’s first show is scheduled for March next year.
