Kate Middleton straps up her injured fingers again as she arrives for SportsAid event with Prince William

The Princess of Wales rocked smart/casual in a jeans and blazer combo today as she arrived in Marlow with Prince William – but her nagging finger injury seems to be giving her more trouble.

Kate, 41, opted for a blue Zara blazer worn with dark jeans and a white T-shirt, plus her trusty white veil as she arrived at Bisham Abbey National Sports Center in Marlow. After injuring her hand on the trampoline last month, Kate’s fingers were back in bandages.

Their Royal Highnesses are taking part in a mental fitness workshop run by SportsAid (where Kate is a patron) and the charity BelievePerform. In a touching gesture and a nod to the importance of maintaining good mental health, the Princess chose to wear her gold star earrings, which were given to her earlier this year by a woman who lost her daughter to suicide at the age 17 years old.

With her thick brunette locks hanging below her shoulders, Kate looked ready for a day of activities – as she revealed yesterday that she likes to ‘challenge herself’ by trying new things.

Today’s engagement follows two days of royal visits by the couple, who are shining a light on mental health awareness in World Mental Health Day week.

On Tuesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Birmingham where they hosted a youth mental health forum in association with BBC Radio 1.

During the forum, mother-of-three Kate gave a rare speech in which she discussed the importance of looking after one’s mental health and having the tools to understand and regulate emotions.

This was followed by special engagements on Wednesday, where Kate visited Nottingham Trent University, where she spoke to students about how they look after their wellbeing and the resources they receive from their institution.

Meanwhile, Prince William headed to Milton Keynes, where he spoke to emergency responders at a blue light centre. Workers discussed how they take care of their emotional and mental well-being, given the hardships they have witnessed on the job.

On today’s visit to the workshop, the royal couple will learn how the program helps and supports young athletes and builds their mental capacity.

The couple are joining SportsAid ambassadors including Paralympic gold medalist Ellie Simmonds and Commonwealth gold medalist Ama Agbeze.

The royal couple are also engaging in several practice sessions, including a ball-scoring exercise which tests mental stamina by providing distractions such as a countdown clock or external noise.

Elsewhere, Kate and William are taking part in a goal game, which is a Paralympic sport for visually impaired athletes.

The couple’s visit comes after an athlete mental health survey carried out by SportsAid and BelievePerform last month found that 42% of young athletes say they “occasionally” feel anxious in their daily lives.

The study showed that 20% said they often feel anxious, while 40% of people surveyed feel they have little or no support for mental health.

In 2022, Kate and William visited SportsAid’s Team England Futures program at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

On Tuesday, Kate made a poignant gesture about the importance of maintaining good mental health as she debuted her gold star earrings, which were given to her earlier this year by a well-wisher.

During her visit to a rugby club, she met late mother Sarah Renton, whose 17-year-old daughter Issy had taken her own life a few weeks earlier after struggling with depression.

She gave Kate the earrings, which were designed in Issy’s memory and the proceeds of which will go to a mental health charity.

Kate was visibly moved by her interaction with Ms Renton, who coaches the under-14 boys at the club, and put her arm around her mother before giving her a warm hug.

Ms Renton later said the Princess had promised to wear the jewelery at a later date in Issy’s memory.
