The Princess of Wales looked elegant in a blue and green tartan ensemble as she planted a tree in the late Queen’s honor last week, new photos have revealed.
Kate Middleton, 41, was pictured digging a hole for the plant as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative in Dean’s Yard in Westminster Abbey, ahead of final preparations for her Together at Christmas carol service last week.
The royal cut a dashing figure in her £749 Holland Cooper jacket for the occasion, beaming with joy as she planted the wild cherry tree, which was a gift from the Duchy of Cornwall.
First created to mark the Platinum Jubilee, the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) tree planting initiative has been extended by the King until the end of March 2023.

In the snaps, the royal can be seen dressed in the elegant blue and green tartan coat, which she first wore in a video to mark 100 years of the Royal British Legion last year.
She opted for a blow dryer for the occasion, sweeping her hair over her shoulder as she picked up the spade for gardening.
Meanwhile, her makeup was neutral for the outing, with a hint of bronzer on her cheeks and a sweep of eyeliner.
He seemed in good spirits as he chatted to a crowd that had gathered outside the abbey, before bending down to add some soil to the tree planting.

The Queen’s Green Canopy tweeted a series of photos of the moment today, writing: “Amid final preparations for the #TogetherAtChristmas carol service at Westminster Abbey last week, the Princess of Wales planted a tree for the #queensgreencanopy in Honor to Her Late Majesty the Queen”. Isabel II.
They continued: “Together with the Dean of Westminster, the Most Reverend Dr David Hoyle and members of the Abbey garden team, His Royal Highness planted a wild cherry tree in Dean’s Yard, adding to over a million trees planted throughout the UK as part of the #queensgreencanopy.
“Westminster Abbey has a unique link to the Royal Family as the setting for special occasions, past and present.
“The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, the upcoming coronation of our patron, His Majesty the King.”
In another snapshot taken last week, the princess chatted with several members of the choir before their Christmas carol service.
Over a million trees were planted in the Queen’s name between October 2021 and March 2022.
Earlier this month the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs announced £499,000 funding for QGC partners supporting the tree planting project.
The QGC will work with partners including Trees for Cities, The Tree Council, The Conservation Volunteers and Earthwatch, as well as local authorities and communities to plant trees at more than 60 locations across England.
Trees for Cities will plant over 5,000 trees in private wilderness areas and The Tree Council will plant 69,000 to create 14km of hedgerows in up to 50 locations.

Conservation Volunteers will plant 1,500 saplings and 2,500 acorns, while Earthwatch will plant 1,800 trees to create three ‘Tiny Forests’ in urban areas.
The government has a target of planting 30,000 hectares of trees a year by 2024 and wants to triple planting rates in England, as part of its Trees England Action Plan.
Forestry Minister Trudy Harrison said it was a “fitting tribute” to the late Queen.
‘The Queen’s Green Canopy is a fitting tribute to the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Trees are at the heart of our communities and today’s funding will ensure thousands more trees are planted across the country in her honor.”
Prince Charles and the Queen kicked off the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative last October (pictured), with the couple planting a copper beech sapling in Balmoral.
Forestry Commission Chairman Sir William Worsley said the project would play a “vital role” in the fight against climate change.
‘Healthy and productive trees play a vital role in combating climate change and protecting biodiversity. They also make our towns and cities healthier, from improving air quality to providing mental health benefits, enriching the quality of life for people of all socioeconomic levels.
“This network of trees will continue to bring benefits to local communities as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and people.”
Kate’s move to honor the Queen last week came hours after Netflix released the final three episodes of the explosive Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix docuseries.
The event was business as usual for a beaming Kate, who was the first to arrive shortly before 4:20 PM. He later reappeared to walk with his family, placing a sympathetic hand on Prince George’s back as he entered the service hand in hand with his sister, Princess Charlotte, and the father of the Prince of Wales, as the crowd chanted: ‘Kate and William we’ love you!’.
King Charles and his wife Camilla quickly followed, the monarch seemingly unfazed by the attacks launched on The Firm by the Sussexes that morning, as he smiled and chatted with the clergy before taking his seat inside the chapel.
The King, Queen Consort, Prince of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Princess of Wales and Countess of Wessex were photographed front and center at the concert, holding candles as they sang to the same sheet music: a message defiance on Harry’s face. and Meghan’s new allegations, which were broadcast to billions of potential viewers around the world at 8am on Thursday.
