Kate Lawler says she is lucky to ‘still be alive’ after taking drugs with friends who overdosed in her youth – as she claims her wild partying days would have got her ‘cancelled’

Kate Lawler admitted she is lucky to be ‘still alive’ as she recalled her days of partying and taking drugs while traveling the world as a DJ.

The 44-year-old Big Brother winner revealed she had a huge wake-up call when two of her close friends ‘overdose and ended up in hospital in a coma’.

Kate said ‘it was the scariest thing ever’ as she thought her friends were going to die after the group took the drug GHB.

Speaking about the It can’t be just me podcast with Anna Richardson, Kate opened up about her wild holidays after winning the third series of Big Brother in 2002.

Kate said: ‘I learned to DJ and I’ve had the most amazing four years traveling the world, but I don’t know how I’m still alive. DJing was a lifestyle.”

She continues, “It was when two of my friends overdosed and ended up in a coma in the hospital. We thought we were going to lose them and it was honestly the scariest thing ever because we were all on the same drug GHB, it was horrible.

“They’re lucky to be alive and I thought, what should I do with my life?”

Kate revealed she is grateful she was offered a job as a radio presenter in Birmingham in 2007, which allowed her to escape London and the party crowds.

She continued: ‘I’m proud of myself for leaving London for Birmingham at the age of 26. My family said, “No, don’t go,” and they selfishly just wanted me to be there, but they didn’t know to what extent. what was going on.’

The reality star added that she’s so “glad” social media didn’t exist during her holiday celebrations, as she admitted she “would have been canceled a thousand times.”

Kate said: ‘I’m so glad social media didn’t exist because I would have been canceled a thousand times, I’ve done so many things.

“I’m grateful there’s no evidence for it.”

Elsewhere during the chat, Kate admitted she’s slept with ‘over 50’ people, as she discussed how she ‘loved being single’ and ‘having casual sex’ in her 20s.

She said: ‘I’ve been in love a few times, but I loved being single and just having casual sex with people. I probably ghosted a few guys back then.

“I don’t know how many people I’ve slept with though, but I know it’s over 50, but my twin sister has only slept with seven.”

Kate is now happily married to podcast company husband Martin Bojtos, who she tied the knot with in June 2022.

The couple welcomed their daughter Noa the year before.

In the months before they got married in 2022, Kate revealed how they were in the ‘worst possible place for a couple’ as she detailed their relationship ahead of the wedding.

She admitted that she was ‘not prepared for the earthquake’ in their relationship after the birth of their daughter Noa.

She had her first child Noa in 2021, after long insisting she never wanted to be a mother, while her partner of nine years Martin, affectionately called Boj, was ‘desperate’ for children.

‘We are getting married in two months and we have actually had the most difficult year so far as a couple.

“But we know it’s because we became parents and your life changes so much when you become parents.”

She continued, “I wasn’t prepared for the earthquake in our relationship. I thought it would change my life, me personally, but I didn’t think about how much it would affect us as a couple, even though I had friends who gave me advice and said, ‘Look, you’re both going to say things that you shouldn’t say.’ mean, you’ll both be more tired than ever before.”

‘We went out for a curry the other day because I pointed out that we have only gone on a date alone twice since Noa was born a year ago. It’s not good enough.’
