“I am so incredibly moved and humbled by the whole experience. So many of you have sent so many sweet messages, including the lady who stopped her car in front of our house a few minutes ago to say, “I know what you’re going through, and I know how much that moment meant and I’m a nurse.” .”

She added: “It was so wonderful to see Derek’s determination to be there, so kind of the Prince of Wales, to make it special for him and to recognize the work of Jake, our incredible carer, who has already represents those who make Derek’s daily life. possible. And of course my long-suffering mom and dad.

“It was also so humbling to meet all the others, far more deserving than myself, who were there to receive their honors. The Prince of Wales managed to make them all feel as special as they are.

“Tomorrow Derek will be back in hospital and of course the daily struggles will continue – but the fact that he was able to be a part on Wednesday should be cherished and I can’t thank everyone in the NHS and everyone around him who loves him for making it possible to make.

“I have so much to thank, but I have to make sure to thank @lisaredmanltd for lending me my ‘fit for a king dress’ and @missbsmillinery for the matching hat.!!

“Love to you all and happy Sunday.”

Kate previously admitted that it was “amazing” that Derek was there afterwards a grueling ordeal making him the UK’s longest-living hospital patient with Covid.

Speaking outside after getting her MBE, Kate shared how Derek achieved a huge milestone by being able to sit upright in a wheelchair during the ceremony.

Kate said: ‘I was like “oh my god” because he’s doing so much better, and then we had a bit of a drama the last ten days and I was like “oh god” but he’s here.

“It’s amazing, and it’s incredible that he was able to sit in the chair, and it’s a chair that you can tilt back, so that helps a little bit. Everyone inside has been so great and made it possible, that’s how important I think.”

Kate also talked about when Prince William awarded her her MBE, saying Derek was moved to tears after the Royal asked how he was doing.

She continued, “He said ‘how’s Derek’, and I said ‘well he’s here’, and then they looked at each other and Derek burst into tears.”

“Derek has actually been very emotional all day and said, ‘I’m so proud. It’s a beautiful thing.’

Derek was seen smiling in a wheelchair as he watched the ceremony in a blue suit and striped tie, while his wife wore a Lisa Redman dress.

Kate sported a jeweled collar and matching headpiece for the inauguration ceremony that Garraway described as “beautiful.”

Alongside her husband Derek, Kate was supported at the ceremony by her parents Gordon and Marilyn, who beamed with pride as they posed for photos.

The broadcaster has been keeping viewers updated on Derek’s condition since he first went to hospital in March 2020 – sharing a heartwarming photo in April this year showing him finally back home with their children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 13.

Derek – who is also a former lobbyist – was left near death after contracting Covid at the start of the pandemic, most likely at the Prince’s Trust Awards, which was also attended by King Charles, then the Prince of Wales.

Earlier this month, Kate revealed that Derek could finally talk.

She told Loose Women, “It’s very much a whisper. I don’t think we’re necessarily going to have a conversation, but you’re going to get great moments.

“Billy had a new basketball and was bouncing with it, and he said ‘Is that a new ball?’ He said, ‘It’s fun’…

“It was great to see that he could do it. Billy was in tears; they were cuddling. It’s that kind of thing that really lifts you up, and the next day he was very quiet.’

Kate also spoke about her return to the show after her 2021 documentary aired, saying, “It’s a strange one, actually. last time I was here, just back from the jungle, we were planning to renew our vows…

“Within a few weeks, we were in that unfolding drama. It feels like an eternity ago, but it could have been yesterday. everyone’s lives have changed dramatically on some levels, but for me I’m still living the scenes you see in the documentary.”

In April, Derek’s smiling return from the hospital gave new hope to his family and friends – three years after his body was first struck by Covid-19 and sepsis.

Derek was taken to the hospital on March 30, 2020, remained unconscious and later slipped into a coma. Days later, Kate and her children have been isolated at home after showing “mild symptoms.”

On June 5, 2020, Kate revealed that Derek was clear of the coronavirus, but continued to battle the damage done to his body.

A month later, she revealed that Derek had awakened from his coma, but was in a serious but critical condition.

In late September, Derek became the longest-living patient with the coronavirus after spending 184 days in and out of intensive care, where he lost eight stones.

And 13 months after going to the hospital, Kate said Derek was finally allowed to leave in April 2021, but needed 24-hour care.
