It came after Kate was overwhelmed last week when she confronted former health secretary Matt Hancock over his handling of the pandemic and his decision to continue I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

Derek fought for his life after contracting the coronavirus in March 2020. He became the UK’s hardest-suffering coronavirus patient after spending 13 months in hospital and remains very ill.

His broadcaster wife blinked back tears as she told Mr Hancock that millions of Brits still feel “very raw” about the pandemic and repeated lockdown, declaring: “It mattered at the time that I couldn’t visit Derek in hospital , he could not see his children

‘Thousands of other people couldn’t see the people they loved because they were following the guidelines. The rules were very confusing for us here.

Hancock was ultimately forced to resign in June 2021 when he was caught flouting his own social distancing guidance by kissing Gina Coladangelo, whom he hired with taxpayer money.

Describing the public anger towards him, Kate added of her decision to appear on I’m a Celebrity: “This gives the impression that you still don’t understand why they’re angry.” You still don’t understand why people are upset. They want to make you more responsible. Mr. Hancock replied: ‘I understand all that. I really do. I’m really sorry.

Defending his matter, he said: ‘I’m only human. We all have our foibles and I fell for it,’ and he added, ‘But that’s not an excuse and that’s why I’ve been open about it. That’s why I apologized. He repeatedly denied breaking the law.

Ms Garraway asked him if he understood the anger people felt towards him, especially those separated by loved ones who were in the hospital.

Then she burst into tears and looked up as she talked about Derek, who hadn’t been well for three years.

I suppose the problem is that you were the Secretary of Health. Thousands of children couldn’t see the people they loved,” he said of the NHS visitation restrictions for so long under his leadership.

Anger: Ms. Garraway said that Mr. Hancock gave the impression that he did not understand why people are so angry with him.

Mr Hancock previously insisted he was not on I’m A Celebrity for the money, as he insisted the 3% of his £320,000 fee he donated to charity was substantial.

Susanna Reid asked her: ‘Are you telling the truth when you say that [money] Wasn’t that your main motivation?

The former Secretary of Health responded: ‘Absolutely. I gave some of the money to charity.

“I didn’t do it mainly (go on the reality show) for the money, I did it mainly to try to show who I am.”

Mr Hancock insisted his £10,000 donation was a “decent sum” and was “more than my MP’s salary”.

He admitted that “of course there was a discussion and negotiation about the fee.”
