Kat Dennings marks her return to television with a notable sitcom dad.
The 37-year-old actress will star as the daughter of Tim Allen’s character in ABC’s upcoming multi-camera comedy pilot with the working title Shifting Gears, according to Deadline.
She will also serve as a producer for the 20th television production.
Allen, 70, stars as Matt, “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” Deadline reports.
“When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage children move into his house, the real restoration begins,” the plot synopsis reads.

‘Dennings’ Riley had a falling out with her father during her childhood and left to marry the boyfriend he hated.
“Now divorced, Riley has been forced to move back with two children in the hopes that she and her father can make it work this time.”
The series is written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who also serve as executive producers along with Last Man Standing EPs Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
Allen’s return to ABC comes after starring in Home Improvement (1991-1999) and Last Man Standing (2011-2021).
In recent months, Allen has teased a reprisal from Tim “The Toolman” Taylor in a possible Home Improvement reboot.
His former on-screen wife, Patricia Richardson, recently said that Allen “lied to people” about her involvement because he “never asked her out.”
At the same studio, the actor recently reprized his role from the Santa Claus films for season 2 of The Santa Clauses on Disney+.
Dennings previously played the role of Max for the six-season series 2 Broke Girls on CBS from 2011 to 2017.
