Kasper Schmeichel signs a one-year contract with Anderlecht after leaving Nice… despite the ex-Leicester star’s interest in the Premier League during the transfer window

Anderlecht closes with the signature of Kasper Schmeichel, after he became a free agent last week.

The Dane has had interest from Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brentford in recent weeks, but wanted to become number one or challenge at a big club.

He is prepared to sign a one-year contract with the Belgian giants.

Schmeichel became a free agent after an agreement was reached with Nice to terminate his contract.

The 36-year-old joined Ligue 1 on a three-year deal last summer after agreeing a transfer from Leicester.

Schmeichel will join Anderlecht, which is second in the Belgian Pro League after the first six games of the season.

Anderlecht would become the 11th club Schmeichel represented during his career.

The goalkeeper is best known for his 11 seasons with Leicester, including the Foxes’ remarkable win in the Premier League in 2015-16.
