Karl Stefanovic reveals the ’embarrassing’ shirtless beach photo that caused James Packer to demand he ‘get into shape’

Karl Stefanovic has revealed the moment his best friend James Packer told him he had to go to the gym.

The 50-year-old Today Show host, who appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday, said he was humiliated after a photo of him revealing his “dad body” on the beach prompted the billionaire businessman to give him a send text message.

“There’s a recording of me coming out of the surf on Christmas Day or whatever and it was a bad recording,” Karl told hosts Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and Kyle Sandilands.

‘James Packer sends me a note saying, ‘buddy, you need to go to the gym.’

James himself recently revealed that he was still gaining weight despite admitting to taking Ozempic.

“When you get notes from Packer about that, you know it’s serious,” Kyle said.

The photo in question was taken in Byron Bay in the summer of 2019, when Karl was enjoying some downtime with his wife Jasmine.

Karl even shared the photo on his Instagram and joked with his followers that he was pregnant.

“After much speculation, the rumors are true,” Karl wrote in the self-effacing post

Jackie then asked Karl how he coped with seeing such ‘confronting images’ and he said that although he was embarrassed, Jasmine had always been very supportive.

“I feel like it’s a big shame, but my wife is always so good about it,” Karl said.

“She always says you know how to look really great from the front.”

Karl even admitted that Jasmine may not find him as attractive anymore since he dropped the pounds.

“It seems like she’s become less interested in me in the bedroom since I lost weight,” Karl said.

In 2020, Karl promised on the Today show to lose 10 kilos in ten weeks, after tipping the scales at 105kg.

“I started at 105kg, the heaviest I’ve ever been, and it was incredibly embarrassing,” said Karl, speaking to obesity expert Dr. Nick Fuller, who helped him on his fitness journey.

‘At the end of all this I would like to lose weight to 90kg. You don’t think that’s important, but for me it’s a big psychological thing.’

At the time, Dr. revealed Nick Fuller the surprisingly easy diet he gave Karl to shed the pounds.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he explained that weight loss must be sustainable and that whole grain carbohydrates and even the occasional cheat meal are allowed.

Dr. Fuller revealed that Karl was on an interval weight loss program that focuses on long-term goals, rather than quick and easy fixes.

The author and research leader said Karl “learned to retrain his brain” to eat healthier foods, including fruit, nuts, seeds, avocado on whole wheat toast.

Elsewhere in the chat, Karl was also quizzed about his luscious locks after Today Show viewers noticed that Karl’s hair has looked noticeably different since returning from Paris, with his quiff appearing much darker and fuller.

“What’s with the hair?” Kyle asked bluntly. ‘Are you bald or not?’

I’m not bald,” Karl replied. “I have the hair from the back and the abdomen, that’s why it’s curly,” Karl joked.

The radio hosts then brought a leaf blower into the studio and pointed it at Karl’s head to see if his leaf would hold up under the windy pressure.

“That’s strangely refreshing,” Karl laughed as his locks remained firmly on his head.
