WHAT DIRECTION? White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre admitted Thursday that she had never heard of boy band One Direction.
Jean-Pierre was announcing that former One Direction member, Irish singer Niall Horan, would perform at a St. Patrick’s Day reception at the White House on Friday.
Biden and Varadkar will then meet in a bilateral meeting and head to Capitol Hill for the annual Friends of Ireland Caucus St. Patrick’s Day luncheon.
Horan will perform at an evening reception that includes an introduction by Shamrock.
Horan was one of five members of One Direction, the popular 2010 English-Irish boy band, which has sold more than 70 million records worldwide.
The band officially broke up in January 2016, but the members have remained in the headlines.
The most prominent, of course, is Harry Styles, who not only recorded recent hits like Watermelon Sugar, but also went on to act.
Reporters in the White House briefing room mentioned Styles’ name to Jean-Pierre when trying to explain why he might have heard of One Direction.
Last year, Styles starred in actress-turned-director Olivia Wilde’s second feature, Don’t Worry Darling, and ended up dating her until November.
The film’s drama-filled September publicity tour continues to be discussed.
For one thing, Styles’ co-star Florence Pugh was reportedly collaborating with Wilde, and only made one appearance to market the film, at the Venice Film Festival.
At that festival, it appeared Styles spat on his co-star Chris Pine, something both men have denied.
During the Oscars on Sunday, host Jimmy Kimmel asked Malala Yousafzai: ‘As the youngest Nobel Prize winner in history, do you think Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine?’
“I’m only talking about peace,” replied the 25-year-old activist.
