Karina Irby: Body-positive influencer ‘trolls’ her followers by crying poor after admitting she ‘accidentally’ bought a house

An influencer has shamelessly trolled her own followers after she was criticised for being deaf to reality after claiming she ‘accidentally’ bought an investment property.

Karina Irby, a Gold Coast businesswoman, OnlyFans star and owner of popular swimwear brand Moana Bikini, appeared to cry poverty despite spending her money on property, expensive cars and luxury items.

The 34-year-old expressed her outrage over the Netflix series Owning Manhattan, which follows real estate magnate Ryan Serhant’s eponymous company and his agents as they battle to acquire the most exclusive luxury properties in New York City.

“Holy wow, I feel so poor,” Karina wrote on Instagram. “The wealth of some people is incomprehensible to me.”

The post was picked up by influencer watchdog account @influencer.updates.au, which pointed out several of Karina’s Instagram Reels showing off her wealth.

“Karina Irby is clearly trolling her followers with this comment,” the account wrote alongside screenshots of videos showing Karina buying an investment unit and “surprising” her “work family” with new Apple products.

Other videos showed Karina buying a BMW for her friend and “unpacking $500 worth of skin care products.”

In April, Karina was criticised for a post in which she claimed she had ‘accidentally’ purchased an investment unit.

One follower pointed out that it is ‘legally not possible’ to accidentally buy a house. Others said she was being insensitive, given that so many young people struggle to scrape together a deposit for their first home.

“I may have accidentally, more or less on purpose, bought an investment property!” she giggled in the video.

‘And I can literally see it from my bed. Oh, my god… Do you see that?

‘I just bought it… God, now I have two mortgages. Am I the worst at adulting?’

“If it was a huge risk, I’m sure my accountant would have said don’t buy it. I don’t even remember what the repayments were.”

If Karina expected her followers to be happy for her, they were in for a surprise.

Many strongly opposed the tone of her video, given the high cost of living.

“Imagine being so rich that you “accidentally” buy an investment property?” someone asked.

“Most people are struggling and can barely afford rent, gas, and food,” one person wrote. “Not a very tasteful video in this day and age, Karina.”

“Please don’t make videos like this when people are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and feed their children,” a second agreed.

A third shared: ‘Well done Karina. Although this still feels insanely toneless.

‘You clearly work hard for your money, but between the big new car you just bought as a surprise for your boyfriend and the ‘accidental’ investment in a second home, I don’t know…

“I’ve always been a staunch supporter of yours, but it feels like there’s a point where maybe a little more insight into the situation is in order.”

A fourth follower joked: ‘Damn, yesterday I accidentally bought a smoothie knowing I would never be able to buy a house.’

A follower who described himself as a “fellow investor” said it was “completely untrue to pretend that you didn’t make this purchase with a lot of consideration.”

“It is not legally possible,” they added.

In a Q&A session on her Instagram page in June last year, Karina revealed that she had 3,135 subscribers on OnlyFans, putting her in the top 0.55 percent of creators.

In April, Karina was criticized for a toneless post in which she claimed she had “accidentally” purchased an investment unit

With a subscription fee of $20 per month, this means she earns a whopping $62,700 per month or $752,400 per year.

Karina responded to the criticism in the comments by stating that she was ‘far from rich’.

“For anyone who is offended and making assumptions about my personal life, please let me help you. I am far from wealthy. I have NEVER been wealthy. Especially not now,” she said.

‘I’m sorry if this video upset you or anyone else. But this is my life that I choose and have been posting about publicly for the past 13 years. The good times and the bad.

‘I won’t hold you hostage here, you can unfollow my travels in a heartbeat. Money doesn’t grow on trees and I’m very grateful to have this opportunity. But it didn’t come without hard work, tears and sacrifice.

“I was never born into money, I was raised to work for what you want. This is 13+ years of that mindset, dedication and pure passion. So forgive me for celebrating my own accomplishments.

“I would be happy for you.”
