Karim Benzema ‘torn over offer worth £173m from unnamed club to move to Saudi Arabia’

Karim Benzema ‘torn up £173m bid from unnamed club to move to Saudi Arabia this summer’ despite signing a one-year contract extension to stay at Real Madrid

  • Benzema signed a one-year extension to stay at Real Madrid for another year
  • He would be the second major player to move to Saudi Arabia after Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Madrid would expect the attacker to stay, despite the reported interest

According to a report, Karim Benzema is torn about accepting an offer to join the Saudi Pro League this summer.

The Real Madrid striker signed a one-year contract extension to stay in Spain last season, but is said to have received a bid of more than £173 million to move to the Middle East for two years.

Benzema has had a mixed season on the pitch for Real as they won just one of the three trophies they competed for – as well as the Club World Cup – and only won the Copa del Rey in what was a disappointing year.

Los Blancos missed Barcelona in the LaLiga title race, while they were knocked out by Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Benzema is now 35 and is Real’s longest-serving player, but according to Relevcould leave the club this summer after 14 years at the club.

The Frenchman signed for Madrid from Lyon in 2009 and has racked up numerous honors in the Spanish capital.

After winning the Ballon d’Or in 2022, he made just 23 league appearances this season, although he still scored 18 times as Madrid fell short.

In total, he has scored more than 350 goals for Madrid in over 600 games since his £25 million move 14 years ago.

He would be the second big name to move to Saudi Arabia if he accepts the deal, following former Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo, who moved to Al-Nassr in January after leaving Manchester United.

It is unclear which club offered Benzema the deal, but he will have a few weeks to make his decision, and Madrid are unlikely to stand in his way if he wants to move on.

There have been questions about his attitude of late and fans have been disappointed with his reaction to Madrid’s exit from the Champions League as club captain.

However, they are said to be confident he will choose to stay at the club and are firmly set in their plans for next season with the forward.
