Kanye West sued for assault and battery by autograph seeker he allegedly punched in 2022
Kanye West is facing charges of assault and battery by the man he allegedly punched outside a members club in downtown Los Angeles in January 2022.
TMZ reports that the accuser – an autograph dealer who got into a confrontation with West outside the Soho House – claimed in court documents that West confused him during the altercation.
He claimed West, 46, shouted “I’m going to make a fucking example of you,” brought up his breakup with Kim Kardashian and then punched him.
He claims he asked West to apologize, but the rapper shut it down by reportedly replying, “Apologize for what?”
The artist then allegedly hit the fan a few more times, “severely injuring him.”

Kanye was reportedly asked to stop hitting the man by someone who was with him, but the rapper instead started yelling at them and instructed them to “go to the damn house and get my damn kids .’
The autograph seeker claims he is a victim of abuse and battery and has endured emotional distress. He is suing Kanye for damages.
Additionally, the man’s wife is also suing West for loss of consortium.
West was investigated for criminal assault over the incident, but ultimately no charges were filed.
Shortly after the altercation, West admitted in an interview that he punched the autograph seeker Jason Lee from Hollywood Unlocked.
West said he was outside the Soho Warehouse at 3am when a man who had been following him for autographs in recent days allegedly provoked him.
“I say, ‘You don’t know what I’m dealing with right now,’” West said, referring to footage of him snapping at the unknown man.
“I just finished these two songs, I came out of the studio, and this guy just had a real attitude of, ‘What are you going to do?’ And do you see that?”
“I’ll just tell you that blue COVID mask ain’t gonna stop that knockout, you know what I mean?”

He added that he was angry at the time with Kim Kardashian, who had filed for divorce and was dating Pete Davidson at the time, and with a cousin who had not told Kardashian he wanted to visit one of their children at school.
“Safety will not come between me and my children. And my kids will not be on TikTok without my permission,” Kanye said, repeating his message to Kardashian.
He also said he was upset about her budding romance with Davidson.
“How are you going to blame me for my behavior and kissing the guy you’re dating right in front of my eyes? Everyone says, ‘that’s cool,’ and I hear the new boyfriend is in the house that I can’t even go to.”
West claims the man he hit wasn’t a fan of his, but someone who was trying to make money by selling autographs he got from the rapper.
“This is the same as the paparazzi, this is not a fan. This is someone using your image who has probably never listened to your songs.”

Dramatic footage of the aftermath of the incident shows West shouting, “Get away from me” at his cousin, who tried to calm him down as the autograph seeker lay on the ground holding his head in pain.
Witnesses told it TMZ at the time West punched the man once in the head and once in the neck, knocking him down and causing the fan to hit his head on the sidewalk.
His cousin was heard telling the rapper, “I’m your family,” as she tried to grab his hand and get him to relax.
‘No, get away from me! There are no hands, there are no hands,” West shouts.
“You should have talked to her,” he adds, now revealing that he was angry at his cousin for not telling his then-estranged wife that he wanted to visit their child at school.
He eventually blamed his cousin for his bad mood, causing him to fly into a rage after the altercation, which was captured on video by confused bystanders.
He said he ultimately admitted to the attack because he was tired of the media’s portrayal of the incident and wanted to take control of the narrative.
‘This comes from the horse’s mouth. I’ve told you before, you are not fit to be in charge of my story,” West told Lee.
‘I’ve told you before, I’ll bring my story with me. I write my story. Why don’t you all go do something, you know what I mean, other than try to take someone down.”
