Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed that a social media employee was fired for firing off a tweet that revealed the suburb where embattled Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker lives.
Lucas said the city had “divorced” itself from the employee who wrote the since-deleted social media post, which followed Butker’s “sexist” commencement speech at Benedictine College last week.
“There has been accountability from the city of Kansas City,” he said said on KCMO Talk Radio Thursday morning.
“We’re all looking forward to moving on and getting the Chiefs playing, [and] letting the city do what it needs to do in providing basic services,” he continued.
Lucas also said the action “resolves the back and forth in the political world,” referring to Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s promise to take action against the city if the guilty employee is not fired.

The since-deleted post revealed the suburb where Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker lives
The Kansas City social media team member, who has not been identified, originally tweeted: “Just a memory of where Harrison Butker lives [redacted]’, mentioning the nearby Missouri suburb.
The post angered many people who believed it endangered Butker, including the Missouri AG, who claimed the Super Bowl champion was “doxxed” because of his “religious beliefs.”
“Let’s paint this with the right brush — which is the government retaliating against an individual for expressing their sincerely held religious beliefs,” Bailey said on the Outkick the Morning podcast earlier this week.
“That could not be a clearer case of a violation of his constitutional freedoms and the Missouri Human Rights Act.”
The city’s official X account quickly deleted the post before issuing an apology

The Chiefs kicker faced widespread backlash for his sexist graduation speech
Butker, 28, faced widespread backlash for suggesting women should embrace their “calling” as “homemakers” before taking aim at the LGBTQ+ community and President Biden’s position on abortion during the graduation speech.
“Ultimately, I support his right to free expression of religion,” Bailey added.
“If you listen to what he said and dig deeper into the words he used, this is a man of Catholic faith, speaking to a Catholic audience at a Catholic university.”
He continued, “I will always stand up and fight for athletes or anyone else who wants to express their religious beliefs and is protected by the Constitution to do so.”
Lucas previously called the tweet “clearly inappropriate” after publicly apologizing.
“Earlier this evening, a message appeared from a city public account. The message was clearly inappropriate for a public account. “The council has rightly apologized for the error and will review account access and ensure something like this is not shared via public channels in the future,” he said last week.
