Kansas City Chiefs struck by travel chaos ahead of NFL season finale against the Denver Broncos

The Chiefs are reportedly stuck in Kansas City ahead of their final regular season game against the Broncos.

Fox4 News claims the back-to-back Super Bowl champions were scheduled to leave for Denver on Saturday around 2:45 p.m.

But a winter storm led to “rapid ice accumulation” and forced authorities to close the airfield at Kansas City International Airport – before the Chiefs could depart.

Andy Reid’s team will take on the 9-7 Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 PM ET. It’s usually just a short 90 minutes from Kansas City to Denver. But even more problems were reported in the Midwest.

According to Fox4 News, the airport’s de-icing machine is malfunctioning, delaying flight departures.

It is said that some planes were diverted to Omaha, Nebraska, more than 500 miles east of Denver.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be rested for the regular season finale as the playoffs loom for Kansas City.

Travis Kelce could also sit out the game, as the Chiefs have already secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

According to reports, the Chiefs tried to change their travel plans to leave earlier on Saturday.

But the charter plane that transported them to Denver arrived late in Kansas City, forcing Reid and Co. to stick to their scheduled departure time.
