Kansas City Chiefs ‘set to sign Louis Rees-Zammit’ as former Wales rugby star lands stunning move to the Super Bowl winners – where he’ll be teammates with Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes!

Louis Rees-Zammit, the former Wales rugby star who left the sport in January to pursue a career in the NFL, is closing in on a dream move to join Super Bowl winner Kansas City Chiefs.

According to multiple reports, Rees-Zammit is close to completing his move to the Chiefs on Tuesday evening after impressing during a visit to the team. Bleacher Report says a deal will be signed on Friday and he will play wide receiver or running back in Kansas City.

Rees-Zammit will be teammates with Travis Kelce, who is dating Taylor Swift, and Patrick Mahomes and will be a new addition to an offense that will compete for an unprecedented three-peat under Andy Reid next season.

The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas in February, following last year’s victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

When Rees-Zammit retired in January it caused disbelief in rugby circles. The announcement came about two weeks before his Wales team started their Six Nations campaign against Scotland, where he would have been a key figure.

But in a barely believable turn of events, it appears Rees-Zammit will be lining up at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City starting in September.

The Chiefs rose to global fame last season when star man Kelce started dating Taylor Swift – with music’s biggest star personally cheering on the team during 13 games, including the Super Bowl.

Unsurprisingly, Rees-Zammit’s blazing speed has impressed a host of NFL scouts.

He recorded a 4.43 in his 40-yard dash at the pro day of the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP), as well as a broad jump of 9ft 7in and a vertical jump of 29in.

It was announced on Monday that the 23-year-old had signed a deal to be represented by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Rees-Zammit has aspirations of playing as a wide receiver — the only problem area for the Chiefs last season — as well as running back and special teams. How exactly Chiefs head coach Reid will use him will be a source of great fascination in the coming months.

The New York Jets and Denver Broncos were also linked with a move for the Welshman – as were the Cleveland Browns – before the deal with the Chiefs was completed.

“If I had any doubt in my mind, I wouldn’t be doing this,” he said. ‘You have to believe in yourself and have complete confidence in your abilities. It’s such a cutthroat business that the margin for error is very small.”

Rees-Zammit made his Wales rugby debut in 2020 and has been capped 31 times by his country. Last year he took part in the World Cup in France, where Wales won all four group matches before losing to Argentina in the quarter-finals.

He also left club side Gloucester behind, having represented the English Premier League team since 2018.

Rees-Zammit made the decision with the full support of his dancer girlfriend Saffron Barker, who said on social media that she was “so proud” of her partner when he made his announcement in January.

She met Rees-Zammit through celebrity dating app Raya and has more than 1.8 million followers thanks to her work as an influencer.

“All I try to do every day is make them proud,” he said. “If I get a team, they’ll live here with me.
