Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to miss four games as he continues to battle PTSD

According to ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs have placed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football sick list.

Edwards-Helaire will miss at least the first four games of the season before being cleared to return.

The running back, a first-round pick by the Chiefs in 2020, recently spoke about his ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Earlier this month, Edwards-Helaire spoke openly about his struggles with his mental health.

‘Sometimes I get admitted to the hospital and I can’t stop throwing up and it’s just, I [don’t] to know [anything] “To stop it, really,” Edwards-Helaire said. “Real dehydration … but it’s just not being there mentally.”

Edwards-Helaire also broached the subject on social media after missing several training camps, and he was not on the practice field with the Chiefs on Sunday.

‘Living with PTSD is no small task, it is difficult and very overwhelming [sic]’, Edwards-Helaire posted on X (formerly Twitter).

‘I’ve had a lot of flare ups over the last month and the amazing staff here at #Chiefs have helped me through some tough times. I’ll be back at the next training!’

Last month, Edwards-Helaire gave an exact date when he began experiencing PTSD — Dec. 22, 2018 — but gave no further details other than to say he and a friend were in what he called a “self-defense situation.”

While Edwards-Helaire was playing at LSU, he and a teammate were trying to sell an electronic device when one of the two players shot an 18-year-old boy who tried to rob them.

Police have not released the identities of the players, but the Associated Press reported that it was Edwards-Helaire.

Recently, Edwards-Helaire has taken on a backup role for Isaiah Pacheco at running back. Kansas City recently added veteran RB Samaje Perine to their roster. Rookie Carson Steele has also been added to the team.
