Kansas City Chiefs receive major injury boost with Jaylen Watson set to return ahead of NFL playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs received a huge injury boost this week ahead of the NFL playoffs.

As the Chiefs’ three-peat mission in the Super Bowl enters its final stretch, Kansas City has designated cornerback Jaylen Watson to return from IR, according to FOX’s Jordan Schultz.

Watson has been sidelined since the end of October with a broken fibula and his return is a huge boost for the reigning national champions.

He will reportedly start training at the end of Week 18, the final week of the regular season.

Watson now has 21 days to be activated to the 53-man roster and could be available to make an official return for Kansas City’s first postseason game in the divisional round.

The defensive star hasn’t played since the Chiefs’ Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 20.

Watson was seen leaving the dressing room on crutches with his left foot in a cast after the 28–18 win.

Watson was a rising star in coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and helped Kansas City shut down some of the NFL’s best offenses through the first six games of the season.

He registered a total of 32 tackles with six passes defended in six games this season before being sidelined.

The Chiefs conclude their regular season on Sunday against the Denver Broncos before entering their postseason bye as the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

The Chiefs are expected to rest several key players ahead of Sunday’s game in Denver as the focus on the playoffs intensifies.

Patrick Mahomes is definitely out and Travis Kelce is also expected to be absent.
