The Kansas City Chiefs were forced to postpone OTA practice on Thursday when a backup player suffered a seizure during a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest, according to reports.
The player has not yet been named, but according to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, he is a defensive lineman and is now in a stable condition in the hospital.
“The Chiefs canceled all team activities today after a backup defensive lineman suffered a seizure during a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest,” Pelissero wrote on X.
“The team’s medical staff worked quickly, an ambulance was called and the player is currently in stable condition.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led his players through OTAs this week as the team began preparations for their shot at an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title in the new season.

According to The Athletic, the Chiefs will practice on Friday. The team has been contacted for comment.
Andy Reid’s team has been practicing this week ahead of a mandatory minicamp next week, which runs June 11-13, where Mahomes will rejoin Travis Kelce.
OTAs typically see teams performing drills without physical contact.
The Chiefs open the new NFL season three months today with a game against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, September 5.
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season by beating the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
