Kansas City Chiefs are forced to sign a third kicker after Harrison Butker’s replacement suffered injury in Panthers win
The Kansas City Chiefs have been forced to sign a new kicker after an injury to current backup kicker Spencer Shrader leaves him questionable for this week’s game.
Shrader was signed earlier this month after an injury to Chiefs starting kicker Harrison Butker placed him on the injured reserve list.
Shrader appeared to suffer an injury during last weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers, in which he made a game-winning field goal as time expired.
He is currently listed as questionable ahead of a Black Friday game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
That led to the Chiefs signing veteran kicker Matthew Wright to a practice squad deal just in case.
Wright has been in the league since being fired from the University of Central Florida in 2019.

This comes after injuries to starter Harrison Butker (7) and backup Spencer Shrader (40)
Since turning pro, Wright has spent time on and off NFL rosters and practice squads.
He has had four stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, two stints with the Carolina Panthers, two stints with the San Francisco 49ers and special stints with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots.
This is his third stint with the Chiefs – having previously spent time in Kansas City twice during the 2022 season, which was interrupted by his third stint with the Steelers.
Throughout his NFL career, Wright has converted 43 field goals into 50 field goal attempts (86 percent conversion) – with a career high of 59 yards.
He has also gone 38 of 40 on extra point attempts.
