An elderly woman who was kicked and cut open by a kangaroo is lucky to be alive after being rescued by her brave dog, who fought from the room for 45 minutes until help arrived.

Pam Baldwin, 71, was walking her Rottweiler named Bundy when she was attacked from behind by an aggressive kangaroo on Nail Can Hill in Albury, Western Australia.

She was kicked in the stomach and beaten on the arm by the vicious crow, who knocked Mrs. Baldwin to the ground and had her arm stitched up.

When her trusty companion got wind of his troubled owner, he sprang into action and chased the kangaroo away before the roe deer set his sights on him.

Ms Baldwin said the kangaroo then tried to drown Bundy in a nearby dam before both she and her dog were rescued by paramedics after she managed to warn nearby walkers.

At Neil Mitchell’s 3AW radio show, Mrs. Baldwin said she felt like something was behind her before she was thrown to the ground.

“I just got the feeling that someone was standing behind me and I turned around and said ‘oh…’ and he… [the kangaroo] just looked me in the face and the next moment he was going to pop. I gave him a few choice words and then I fell to the floor,” Ms Baldwin said.

“I don’t know if I blacked out or if he knocked me out, but I remember Bundy coming and jumping over me and chasing the kangaroo away.

“He protected me, he chased it away.

“Bundy fought the kangaroo for about 45 minutes. He wouldn’t let the kangaroo come near me.’

Mrs. Baldwin was told Bundy was about 20 seconds from death when he was finally rescued, completely exhausted.

Shocked witnesses said the kangaroo was at least 6 feet (1.8 meters) long.

Ms. Baldwin said the aggressive encounter may have been due to the kangaroo’s mating season, but it wasn’t the first time she encountered a furious cage.

“I met another roo a few times last year and he used to hide in the grass and you’d walk by and the damn thing would jump up at you,” she said.

Mrs. Baldwin admitted it was probably time to find another hill to walk up her faithful companion.
