Kamala takes the crown: Harris celebrates being nominated by trolling Trump in arena that hosted the Republican convention… as Walz compares crowd sizes

Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated her confirmation as the Democratic presidential nominee by trolling former President Donald Trump in the arena where the Republican National Convention took place last month.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, drew more than 15,000 supporters to Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum for an event Tuesday night, held in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention.

It’s normally unusual for a nominee to walk out of the convention, but with a little TV magic, the ceremonial voting concluded at the United Center in Chicago, after which the crowd watched Harris walk onto the stage to a cheering Milwaukee audience.

Before Harris arrived, Walz made it clear that the intention was to get on Trump’s nerves.

“Not only do we have a tremendous energy at our convention, we have a much greater energy at the place where they had their convention,” Walz said. “Oh, that one guy is going to be so sad tonight, so sad, so sad.”

Trump has always boasted of his “huge” audience, and he has insisted that Harris is no match for that.

He even falsely claimed that a Photo of a crowd at an airport gathering in Michigan was generated by AI.

Harris let the size of the crowd speak for itself, but did make a joke after her supporters loudly chanted “not back.”

“Tim looked at me and said, ‘I don’t think we’re going back,’” Harris said with a laugh.

During his speech, Walz reminded the audience how hectic the past month had been.

“You know, it was just a month ago that the Republican Party gathered here in this place for their convention,” Walz noted.

“It seems like none of you saw it. But in case you didn’t, after promising us a speech about unity and promising that he was a changed man, Donald Trump subjected us to 92 minutes of ranting and raving madness,” the Minnesota governor said.

Trump attended the RNC in the days following the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The Sunday after the RNC, President Joe Biden abruptly withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed Harris instead.

“They were in great shape, they were feeling good, this was over,” Walz recalled. “Now, believe me Milwaukee, a lot can happen in four weeks.”

Harris acknowledged one of those things at the top of her speech: Biden’s decision to step aside.

The president delivered a very late keynote speech Monday night to close out the first night of the Democratic National Convention.

He then flew to California for vacation, leaving the DNC completely in Harris’ hands.

As she walked onstage with Walz, she said, “I also extend greetings to our incredible President Joe Biden.”

“Wasn’t he wonderful last night?” she asked the audience. “And I know we are deeply grateful for his lifelong service to our nation.”

From there, the crowd erupted into a chant of “Thanks Joe!”

Harris was alone on the jumbotrons in Chicago for her speech in Milwaukee, so she used the time to thank the delegates for officially naming her a nominee, with a number of celebrity appearances, including an appearance by Lil Jon and cameos from Eva Longoria and The Wire’s Wendell Pierce.

“Well, they just finished their roll call,” Harris said. “And they nominated Coach Walz and me to be the next vice president and president of the United States.”

“We are so honored to be your nominees. This is a people-driven campaign,” she boasted.

Later in her speech, she explained the significance of this when she interrupted her speech to ask for help when a supporter had a medical emergency.

“This is who we are. This is what we stand for,” she said, after the crowd parted so medics could push a woman in a wheelchair through. “We take care of each other.”

She added that this is “really understanding what charity means.”
